We. the undersigned, efich mid all of whom are adult resident freeholders and voters of Washington and Monroe townships, In Adatns County, Indiana, respectfully petitloh your honorable body that you construct and complete a free macadamized atone road, on the boundary line between Washington and .Monroe townships aforesaid, over and upon the public highway on the following route, to-wlt: Commencing on the southwest corner of section thirty-one (311 In township twentyseven (27) north, range fourteen 114) east, running thence following the public highway dividing said section thirty-one (311 In townshl» twenty seven (27) north, range fourteen (14) east, and section six (6) in township twenty-six 126) north, range fourteen (14) east, and terminating at the northeast coiner of said section six (6) aforesaid. Your petitioners aver and say that the petition herein Is signed by more than fifty adult resident free-holders and voters of said townships abutting said township line road and that more than ten of such petitioners are from each of tlie townships affected and to he affected by the proposed Improvement. Your petitioners aier and say that the improvement prayed for is less than three miles in length, is outside of the limits of any city or Incorporated town, connects at both ends with a free macamam road on said township line, and that a United States Rural Mail Route passes over said highway. '’our petitioners ask your honorable body that said highway above described he drained and graded and that broken stone be placed upon the grade and that upon such broken stone there be placed stone screenings. Your petitioners further show that the highway thus sought to be improved is a public highway already established and in use and is one of the public highways on the boundary line between Washington and Monroe Townships aforesaid. We. the undersigned, each and all oil whom are adult resident freeholder* and voters of Washington township, Adams County, Indiana, respectfully petition your honorable body and nsk | that you construct and eomtflMr a l macadamized stone road, In said town ship, over and upon the public highway 1 situated on the following route, towit: Commencing at the southeast terminal of the George Kintz Mlinadmu i Road, where the same forks with the Fort Recovery Road near the northeast corner of the northwest quarter (11) of the northeast quarter (%) of section thirteen (1:1) in township twenty-seven (27) north, range fourteen 114> east, in Adams County, Indiana, thence southeast, on. over and along said Fort Recovery Road to the township lino between tiie townships of Washington and St. Mary s in said County and State and there connecting with the Paul Baumgartner Macadam Rond and there to terminate. Said petitioners aver and say that tlie Improvement prayed lor is less than three (3) miles in length and connects at both ends with a free Macadam Road in said township, and that a! United States Rural Mall Route passes| over the highway herein sought to be improved. C„ Jan. 9—(Special to Daily Democrat)—Baltimore, Md.. was this afternoon selected as the place to hold the democratic national convention this year. Bert Webb ot Geneva was placed on trial in the circuit court this morning before Judge Merryman and a jury t. answer to the grand jury indictment, ; charging him with assault and battery with intent to commit voluntary manslaughter. The alleged crime was committed last November 6th, at the home of Frank Steed at Geneva, whei George Zaggel was struck by Webb ' over the head with a ring from a stove lid, crushing in his skull, and making a wound about two inches long an., three-eights inch wide over one of Zag gel’s eyes. He was taken to the hospital at Portland for treatment, but his recovery resulted, thus resulting in a less serious charge being preferred against Webb. Zaggel is now said tc be at his old home in Buffalo, N. Y , having come o Geneva some time ago to be with his brother, William Zaggel, a junk dealer there. It is said on the day of the alleged crime, Webb. Zaggel and Steed had been playing cards in the calaboose at Geneva, an« also had whiskey. A quarrel ensued and afterwards Webb went to the Steed home nearby to get some matches. Mrs. Steed was at home and it is said he offended her in some way and she ordered him out of the house Steed came home and the two mei got in a quarrel. Webb striking Stecc, and that Zaggel interfered and was also struck over the head. About five or six witnesses on each side will be examined. R. C. Parrish is conducting the prosecution, while L. C. DeVoss is conducting the defense, he having been appointed by court to defend Webb as a poor person. Webb has been in jail since his arrest last No vember, having failed to give th< SI,OOO bond. The evidence will prob ably be finished this evening, but on account of the cold weather the case will not be given to the jury until tomorrow morning, thus not keeping the jurors up over night.
