The month or August, the rnpst popular oi all for the holding of family reunions, is here again. Already a large number have been held during the past half of the montn aud many more are scheduled to take place during th" nearly three weeks which remain. , There are families who believe in 1 clinging to the old rite, namely ot 1 spending the day at the country home| wheie their youthful years were spent ' in harmony, while others desire some > suitable park or shady place, where ’ the day can be spent at leisure and ’ tree from daily occupation and toil. The main reason why August is so popular is that owing to the crop season. which comes in principally ahead of the month, and which, if held soon- , er. would deter many from attending the happy gatherings and reunions, which they could attend if held later on. , It is doubtful if there is a family presiding in the county that can not sciffipe up a relationship with the heads of families which have arranged for reunions. If there is a person or family in the county who is not related in any way. they need not miss one of the best times of their lives i but will find a welcome awaiting them jat any of the reunions. They will be ; fed until they can eat no more and I will suffer with headache and other , troubles until they will not soon for- . get the day and feast. Moffet, of the Elwood Record, former superintendent of the Da catur city schools, for president of the National Editorial association, and urging that the next meeting of that body be held in Chicago I The St. Mary's river at Monroe street will be spanned by one of the . finest bridges in the county within a | year or so, if the plans are carried out as promised in one of the firs' actions of the county commissionetthereto, when that body this morning in its estimate of expenses for the year ending December 31, 1912, named the sum of $15,00<) for the buildins of the bridge. This estimate will be acted upon by the county council at Its annual session which opens the ■ first Monday in September, and i! ' agreeable to that body, the appropriation will be made, tl«e sum to be raifr ed from next year’s taxes Author!- i ties, however, stated that the tax . would not be increased over that of last year, with the building of this , bridge. While the sum of $15,000 is recommended for appropriation, the I cost of the new structure would no' I exceed eleven or twelve thousand dol- ■' lars, the maximum amount being named that there might be no possi- | bilify of falling short. The bridge i« ' one that is badly needed the present ' structure having nearly outlived its usefulness in its forty years or more of existence. Besides being a mis' 1 unsightly structure, it is becoming 1 unsafe for public travel, and 1 ing of a ne<w span would be welcomed by the hundreds that find it a necev 1 sity many times a week to cross the 1 river at this point on their way tn '; town.
