NOTICE OF JOINT SESSION cf THE BOARDS OF COMMISSIONERS OF ADAMS AND WELLS COUNTIES TO HEAR OBJECTIONS OF ANY TO THE IMPROVE OF A HIGHWAY ON THE COUNTY LINE DIVIDING ADAMS AND WELLS COUNTIES. State of Indiana. Counties of Adams and Wells, ss: The undersigned. Ora D. Garrett, County Auditor of Weils County, and C. D. Lewton, County Auditor of Adams County, hereby give notice to the taxpayers of Harrison Township, Wells County, Indiana, and of French Township, Adams County, Indiana, that there is pending a petition before the Board of Commissioners of Wells County. Indiana, and the Board of Commissioners of Adams County, Indiana. which petition is filed in the County Auditor’s office of Wells County, and said petition being for the improvement of a certain highway which is on the county line dividing Adams and Wells counties, and dividing the township of Harrison in Wells county and the township of French in Adams county, said highway being particularly described as follows, to-wit: Commencing at the northeast corner of section 17, township 26 north, range 13 east, in Wells county. Indiana. thence south on the county line dividing Adams and Wells county, to a point in section 20, said tow-nship and range where the Vabash river crosses from Adams county, Indiana, to Wells county, Indiana, in the southeast quarter of said section 20. And it is proposed by said petition to improve said highway in the .following manner: By grading the sfeme to a common level as nearly as the nature of the land over which said highway passes will permit and by properly draining the same and that the grade of said highway when made be covered with crushed stone with a " top dressing of stone siftings and to a w.Jth of ten feet and at such.a depth that 1.768 yards of material will be required for each mile of said improvement and to build the same by a system of taxation of all the taxable property of said townships. PETITION FOR STONE ROAD. State of Indiana, County of Adams, ss: Before the Board of Commissioners of the county of Adams, June Term, 1908. We, the undersigned, each and all of whom are resident freeholders and voters of Kirkland township, in Adams county, Indiana, petition your honorable body, that you construct and complete a free macadamized stone road, in said Kirkland township, over and upon the public highway, situated on the following route towlt: Commencing at the southeast corner of section 26, township 27, north range 13 east, in Adams county, Indiana, running thence east between sections 25 and 36. township and range aforesaid and ending at the southeast corner of section 25, being the boundary line between Washington township and Kirkland township, in Adams county, Indiana. That the improvement prayed for is less than two miles in length and connects at the commencement thereof with the Decatur and Bluffton macadam road, and at the end it connects with an improved highway on the boundary line between Washington and Kirkland townships aforesaid. That a United States rural route passes over said highway. Your petitioners dsk that said highway be drained, and graded, and that broken stone be placed upon the grade, and that upon such broken stone, there be placed stone screenings. Your petitioners say that the highway herein sought to be improved, is a public highway, already in use, and is one of the public highways of Kirkland township. That the improvement herein prayed for is to be a continuation of. and an extension of Decatur and Bluffton Macadam Road, and shall be called the Butcher Macadam Road. Your petitioners further ask that said road as above described be graded to a width of 24 feet and that broken stone be placed thereon to a width of 10 feet and to a depth of 8 inches, St the sides thereof, and and to a depth of 10 inches, In the center thereof, and that crushed stone screenings be placed thereon to a depth of three inches upon such broken stone, that the same be constructed as a double track. Your petitioners ask that said improvement be paid for by bonds, issued by the county of Adams, in the State of Indiana, payable in twenty semi-annual installments, or series, and for the payment of which we ask that a tax be levied, upon the taxable property of said Kirkland township, Adams county, Indiana, in a sufficient amount to pay the interest and principal of said bonds, as they may become due.
That said road be built, and that bonds be issued and said tax levied, Upon said property of said township, in accordance with the acts of the legislature of the State of Indiana, passed in the year 1905, beginning on page 550, and as amended in the acts of 1907, now in force providing for the extension of free gravel or macadam roads. We further ask that the board take all of the necessary steps, as is required by law, to have said improvement constructed and made, as petitioned herein, that the same be constructed* without submitting the question of building the same to an election of the voters, of said Kirkland township, and that they construct the same under the laws of the State of Indiana, now- in force, providing for the extension of free gravel or macadam roads.
