According to fignres sent out by a New York broker the depreciation in the value of industrial stocks dur- . ing the past year has been almost four billion dollars. That is a sum so vast that it Is beyond comprehension. But ia represents the lose somebody sustained by dealing in various stocks. It not only includes the very rich those in good circumstances and those in moderate circumstances but those who depend on their day's work or a small salary for a living. It is the result of booming stocks far beyond their actual values. It ie the most tremendous falling in the value of stocks in the history of the country. Had It taken place under a democratic president the gamblers would be about ready to hang the president and every democrat in the land. —Columbia City Post, The Philadelphia North American •ays: "The institutions that are in trouble owe their troubles not to any incidents or accidents of legitimate banking but to gambling. Wall Street assumes the virtuous pose of being shocked by the traction scandal and the use of a chain of banks as an adjunct of stock jobbing.
