The employes of the freight offices and yards of ‘the Cincinnati. Hamilton and Dayton and the Ohio Central, unable to secure satisfactory concessions from their employers, joined the ranks of the strikers late yesterday afternoon. President Meade, of the local branch of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, placed the number of men on strike today at 360. He thought the number might be increased to 450. —Toledo Blade. H. Fred Bohnke on yesterday dis posed of his beautiful black Hocking stallion to several parties at Indianaapolis and the horse will be shipped some time this week. Mr. Bohnke received a nice price for this animal. Undoubtedly the greatest crowd that ever attended a football game in Indiana is expected to be present when the “Little Giants" of Wabash college meet the mighty Michigan at Indianapolis. Saturday. Oct. 19. It will be the first time that the "Wolverines" have ever appeared in the Hoosier state and thousands of admirers will turn out to see them. Visitors are expected from almost every town and city of importance in Indiana and in some places arrangements are being made for special trains.
Ed Lyons returned this afternoon from a business trip to Cincinnati, O. The Elks are requested to take notice that the lodge will, commencing with Friday night, hold their regular weekly meetings. During the summer, but one meeting a month was held according to the by-laws. Business of importance will be transacted Friday evening and it is essential that every member be present. Policeman Reynolds picked up a suspicious looking man near the Chicago and Erie depot Monday night and lodged him in jail. A charge of vagrancy was instituted against him and he was given a hearing in Mayor Coffee's court Tuesday. He gave his name as David Jones and said he was from Cleveland. He was in a demented condition and said such unreasonable things that it 4s believed that he is crazy. A fine of five dollars and costs was imposed and he will remain with Sheriff Meyer until he has served the sentence. One of the city officials stated Saturday that there would be business of importance to be considered at the' next meeting of tte council, which will be held next Thursday night. It could not be learned what the business is, although many guesses might be offered as to the important business which will hold the city “dads " Whether Hartford City's slippery lid is to be the subject of discussion or whether the august body wll give their attention to the elusive female clad in black will be breathlessly awaited by the general public.—Hartford City Gazette. o BITTEN BY A SPIDER.
