Orville Harruff and L. L. Baumgartner have returned from Linn Grove, where they surveyed a ditch. J. B. Stoneburner, proprietor of the Pictorium, has installed three electric fans in his play house, thus insuring the patrons comfort during the coming summer. The plan is all right and Mr. Stoneburner is to be congratulated upon his progressiveness. Major and Mrs. R. B. Allison and R. K. Allison and family left Tuesday for Oden, Michigan, where they will occupy their summer homes during the hot months. Both own beautiful cottages at that popular northern resort and the next few months promise their full quoto of rest and pleasure. Mrs. S. Dorwin and Mrs. jqnnie Studabaker left Sunday afternoon for Boston, from where they will sail Wednesday tor a three months' tour of Europe, returning home in September. A large crowd of friends accompanied them to the C. & E. depot and bid them a happy trip as they boarded the train. The Walters families held a reuniop at Robinson Park Sunday f and had a most enjoyable time. AU carried-out; well filled baskets and about one hun-. dred partook of the dinner. After a short but interesting program a business meeting was held and Mr. Charles Walters was elected president and Mrs. Fred Greeg secretary. Mrs. Emma Brokaw and daughter of this city were in attendance. A. M. Howard, who formerly lived east of the oity, but now lives near Decatur, was in town this morning. While many farmers are kicking on the wet weather. Mr' Howard says this spring has had a rainfall similar to that of the Sahara desert in comparison with what he experienced thirteen years ago in Grant county, when it rained for twenty-eight days successively in June. —Bluffton Banner. - > The ‘Union City Times says that farmers of that section have become ■discouraged. Wheat is filling rapidly and farmers who plowed up wheat and planted oats regret it as the oats is making a poor showing. Tobacco, which is one of the section’s big crops usually, is very backward. There was more rein about Union City than here. Blackford county crops are comparatively in good shape. The district convention of the home missionary society of the Methodist church is being held at Ft. Wayne and the following people from Decatur attended: Mesdames John Niblick, C. D. Lewton, Joe Helm, Henry Krick, J. Fristoe, Martin Beery, J. L, Gay, Jonas Tritch, John Rex, W. H. Gilpen and J. M. Miller. Mrs. Dr. Wilcox gave the response address of welcome this morning, which was well gotten up and delivered. Mrs. Murray, president of the district, will give an interesting address tonight. A large lumber dealer of Saginaw, Mich., is quoted as saying that he will not be surprised if within the decade or two the United States is driven to importing lumber from Japan, Manchuria and other eastern countries. He adds that there is little timber now left in Wisconsin and that what is left is owned by half a dozen men, while according to his view the forests of the southern states will be as badly exhausted in ten years. The Pacific coast has of course vast quantities of timber left, but even these are not inexhaustible. The State Board of Agriculture, following the action of the Illinois Hoard of Agriculture last year, will furnish every G. A. R. veteran who visits the State Fair this year on Old Soldiers’ day, which comes on Tuesday, Sept. 17, with a bronze medal as souvenir of the occasion. Sid Conger, president of the board, has appointed a qpmmittee consisting of William A. Ketcham, department commander of the G. A. R. in Indiana; J. R. Fesler, adjutant general of the Indiana G. A. R. and Harry C. Adams of Indianapolia to decide on the design for the medal and the motto it shall bear
Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Brandyberry and children returned to their home at Boulder, Colorado, yesterday, after visiting here for several months with relatives and friends. j People who were a few weeks ago knocking on the base ball situation are now clamoring tor a team, but it remains to be seen whether they ; want a team bad enough to help maintain it This is a matte rwhich
may probably be determined at the meeting to be held Wednesday night. Several plans will be presented at that meeting, but no plan which does not comprehend the' payment of thie indebtedness of the association will be very popular. —Hartford City News. Dr. J. T. Dickes- and daughters, Hazel and Erma, arrived home Monday’ Evening. The former accompanied by Miss Hazel left here the forepart of this month to attend the annual meeting of he American Medical Association, being one of the delegates from this state to the meeting which was held at Atlantic City, N. J. Miss Haze visited her sister, Miss Erma who attends college at Chambersburg, Pa., and the two ’ joined their father at the close of the Medical meeting and returned home byway of the Jamestown expedition. —Portland Sun. The Indiana Music Teachers’ association will hold its thirtieth annual convention and festival at Noblesville June 25, 26, 27 and 28. The program is fraught with artists’ names that bear a national reputation. Special efforts were made by the members of the program committee to prepare a program that, for general excellence will surpass all previous efforts. Instead of having one great artist, as heretofore, each performer is an artist, and it will be difficult to particularize. Indications from official headquarters point to a large attendance of delegates. The association will be well attended from this city. o DELIGHTFUL TRIP 18 THE PLAN Will Visit all the Important Cities of the Great West—-’Will be Absent s-h! O'j ■••’Ho; b o; Monthr. Judge and Mrs. R. K. Erwin will left last evening on a delightful two .months’ trip through the West. They will go over the Clover Leaf at 9:12 tonight to St. Louis, from there to Kansas City and thence for ten days through Oklahoma and the Indiana territory. From there they will go to Denver, thence to Colorado Springs for a week, then on to Salt Lake City, probably spending a day or two at Goldfield, the famous mining camp, and then to San Francisco and Loa Angeles. From the latter city they will travel north, taking fn the sights at Portland, Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane, Washington. From there they expect to journey to Livingston, Montata, and from there to the famous Yellowstone park for a week or ten days, then, home byway of Fargo, North Dakota, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Chicago. It will certainly be a most delightful, interesting and instructive journey, and will no doubt be thoroughly enjoyed by the Erwins. They expect to arrive home about August 15th or perhaps a little earlier. ———■ ■ ■-o— —————- CURED TO STAY CURED. How a Decatur Citizen Found Complete Freedom from Kidney T r oubles.
