SUMPTOUS DINNER SERVED. A Real Wedding With Mr. and Mrs J ■ Eupright as Couple of Honor I Was a Feature of the Day. Three hundred happy guests, relation and friends enjoyed the celebration of the sixtieth wedding anniversary of John and Elizabeth R upright at their home, nine miles west of this city, in Preble township yesterday. It was a gala day for all and a fitting event in honor of a marriage contract which has existed for three score years. The guests began arriving early and long before the noon hour the Rupright yard was filled with the merry crowd. Seventy-six members of the family were present, including seven children, forty-two grand children and twenty-five great grand children, every living member of the family being present except two grand children and two great grand children. One of the delightful features of the day was the wedding of Joseph Vernon Kriegh, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Rupright, to Miss Elmira Acker, of Peru. This event occurred' at eleven o’clock, Rev. Cambrink, of Ossian performing the ceremony and Grandpa and Grandma Rupright serving as groomsman and bridesmaid. Mr. and Mrs. Kriegh will reside at Peru, where Mr. Kriegh has resided for some time, being engaged ( in railroad work. At noon the big dinner was served, the entire crowd being seated at a table one hundred feet long and; overspread with a canopy. The I menu included all good things in season and was a feast, the like of which has seldom been enjoyed in' Adams county. For two hours, the happy, guests enjoyed the privilege of eating dainties of every kind, especiallyprepared for the occasion and dinner was a most delightful and complete success. Everyone was happy, but none! more so than Grandpa and Grandma. Rupright. The fonner is eighty one year’s old and the latter seventy nine and that their long lives of usefulness in Adams county have made them popular was* evidenced by the heartiness of the congratulations yesterday. Uncle John was conspicuous all day. He wore his old favorite Cleveland hat and had a| smile and a happy word for every- ( one. Among the gpests from a distance were Messrs, and Mesdames J. T. Merryman, John W. Vail, J. C. Sut>ton, Jerry Coffee, J C. White and Judge Erwin, of Decatur; L.L. Dun-j bar, wife and daughter, George. Sqhjangenhauf, wife and children, ofy Linn Grove; Mrs. D. L. Walmer, Miss, Francis Faring, Bluffton; Len Werkel and family, Fort Wayne; Ajrs. M. A. Raver, Markle; -Mrs. George Bailey, Huntington; Messrs, and Mesdames Jonathan Seaman, Ed Corel, Ed Robi-< son, Jacob Kizer, M. Campbell anil John Leipkey, of Zanesville, Mrs/' Martha Kern, Pierceton, Ind.; Alfred Cooperider, South Whitley, William Rawley, Albion; Mrs. Mary Double.) Warren, Ohio; Frank Smith and wife and Mrs. Ellen Corlin, a sister of ( Mrs. Rupright, of Washington, lowa. Mr. Oscar Welty, of Peterson, was also a guest. The Democrat congratulates Uncle John Rupright and his bride of three score years and hope they may enjoy many more celbrations. o — “GIRL FROM KANSAS’’ A FAKE. Small Crowd. Saw Worst Show of Season. There seems to be a number of poor shows on the road this year, as there always is* early in the seasonDecatur has had several of them and the crowds at the opera house begin to show the effects thereof. When Rogers Bros, were' here recently we' thought that the limit but the “Girl From Kansas,” Saturday evening, was in a still lower class. Some, “ shows “are so rotten but this one was too bad for even that verdict. They failed to have a single redeeming feature. These poor attractions are not Mr. Bosse’s fault, as the shows come well recommen led but it is a little early to pick out the good ones. Hereafter,- however, the opera house patrons may rest as.sured that.’, the utmost care will be taken and the bes shows on the road booked. O s MAGOON GOES TO PHILIPPINES. WASHINGTON, Oct. 3.—lt is announced today that Gov. Magoon, recently of the canal zone, will go to the Philippines as vice governor. Gov. Wintrop of Porto Rico will go to Cuba. .
