LEGAL ADVERTISING MACADAM ROAD PETITION State of 1 Indiana, County of Adam?. In the jsioners’ Court of Adams county. Lafayette Rape, et al. ex Parte. Petition for Macadam Road. • To the. Board of Commissioners of Adams Couhty: We the undersigned all resident freeholders and voters of Wabash Township in the County of Adams and State of Indiana, would most respectfully ask your honorable body to take .all necessary steps to cause to be graded, drained and paved with crushed stone, the highway already laid out and established on and along the following route, to-wit: - Commencing at the section line between sections fourteen (14) and twen-ty-three (23) township twenty-tive (25) north, range fourteen (14) east at the north-east corner of the north-west quarter of said section twenty-three (23) thence south along the middle line of said section tvfenty-three (23) / to the north-east corner of the northwest quarter of section twenty-six township twenty-five north, range fourteen (14) east, one mile, thence south along the middle line of said section twenty-six (26) township and range aforesaid to the south-east corner of the south-west Quarter of said section twenty-six, township twentyfive (25) range fourteen (14) east, and there to terminate. Said petitioners would further show that the above road when completed will be about two (2) miles in length and shall be called the L. Rape Macadam road. Said petitioners would further show that it would be practicable to build said road as a double track road and that the same be graded to a width of twenty-five (25) feet and that crushed stone crushed to oneMnch size be placed thereon to the width of ten feet, with stone screenings placed on top of said stone. - - Said petitioners ask that the crushed stone placed shall be the depth of eight (8) inches and the screenings placed thereon shall be placed to a depth of four (4) inches. Said petitioners further ask that said road be built and that to pay for same, bonds be issued payable in twenty semi-annual installments and to pay said bonds, together with the interest thereon and the costs of location a tax he levied upon the taxable property of Wabash township, Adams County, Indiana. Said petitioners would further show that said road when completed will connect at the southern extremity with Wm. Burk Gravel Road and at the northern extremity with the extension No. 2 of the Geneva, Ceylon & Wabah Township Macadam Road, both of which are free gravel roads. Said petitioners would further show that sajd road be by said Commissioners ordered constructed without first submitting question of building same to a vote of the voters of said Wabash township, and that such proceedings be had' to build and establish the same • as provided by the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, as approved March 8, 1905. To the Honorable Board of Commissioners of Adams County, Indiana: We the undersigned all resident free holders and voters of Root township and o f Union Township, In Adams county, Indiana, would most respectfully petition your honorable body, to cause to be built a stone road, on and along the following route, to-wit: Commencing at the south-east corner of section twenty (25), Township twen-ty-eight (28) north, range fourteen (14)east, at the place where the township line between Root and Union townships aforesaid crosses the public highway on the south line of said section and section thirty (30) township twenty-eight (28) north range fifteen (15) east. The name of the said road above described shall be called the Joint Root and Madison Township Road. We ask that said improvement shall be paid for by bonds issued by the counties of Allen and Adams in the state of Indiana, payable in twenty semi-annual installments or series for the payment of which we ask that a tax be levied upon the taxable property of Root township, in Adams county, and upon the taxable propertv of Madison township, in Allen county, Indiana, in a sufficient amount to p’ay the interest and principal of said bonds as (they may become due. ONE To the honorable Board of Comissloners of Adams County, Indiana: We, the undersigned viewers and engineer appointed by your Honorable Board at the Jue term, 1906, and in pursuance to the within order of said petetion would most respectfully submit the following report In pursuance to the within order we, William Zimmerman and L. W. L. Lewton as viewers and L. L. Baumgartner as hnginer met at the office of County Auditor In Decatur, Indiana, and after being duly sworn as prescribed by law we proceded to examine, ,l a Y °ut and straighten said road as shown by that part of our report which is marked exhibit “A” and which report shows the route of proposed road. I We further find no claims for damages of any kind whatever. We further estimate the cost of the proposed improvement to be. DESCRIPTION OF THE ST. MARYS MACADAM ROAD EXTENTION NO. ONE. . Commencing at the north-east corner of the north-east quarter of section one (1) township twenty-seven (27) north, range fourteen (14) east, in Adams County, State of Indiana, 1 thence running west on half section line through section one (1) to the Tricker pike, and there to terminate. ROADWAY, GRADE, ETC. I The roadway must be clear of all fences, trees, stumps, logs . and all rubbish of whatsoever nature it may be. I All stumps must be either grubbed or blasted out in the drains or on the grade. V

I DRAINS. Side drains shall be con.'itriicted 6n each side of said Improvment its inentire length., said side drain is to/be not less than one (1) foot wide at jthe bottom and the banks to have a slope * of eighteen (18) inches horizontal, to* one (1) foot perpendicular and ftie bottom of said drains to be not less then eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade, and to be constructed in a neat and workmanlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet to carry all the water that may accumula.te therein and remove the same from said highway. The bottom of said drains to be unobstructed and continuous. From station sixteen (16) to station twenty-four (24) the contractor shall place on each side of the grade, in side drains, a string es ten (10) inch tile laid to grade hereinafter given by the I engineer, and said tile shall be cover- I ed to a depth of two (2) feet , I BULKHEADS. I At the ends of the above strings of tile at the bridge there Shall be built * bulkheads. Said bulkheads shall com- i mence eighteen (18) inches below bottom of the tile and shall extend* three (3) feet above the top of the tile and shall be eight (8) feet long and in thickness shall conform to the wings of the abuttment to which they shall be attached. There shall also be bulkheads built three feet west of wells at station 19. Said bulkheads shall commence one (1) foot below the bojtora of the tile and extend three (3)- feet above top of tile and shall be six (6) feet long and fifteen (15) inches thick. The above bulkheada shall be built of concrete composed of one (1) part good Portland cement, two (2) parts clean, sharp sand and three (3) parts crushed stone. All parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete WELLS. There shall be wells built at the following places: At station 16, two wells, one on'each side of the road. ' ' At station 19, two wells, one on each side of the road. Said wells to be built of the best hard-burned brick laid flatwise and to extend eighteen (18) inches below the bottom of the tile and walled up tc the surface of the side drains, said wells to be not less than three (3) feet in diameter on the inside and' arched at top so as to receive an eighteen (18) inch cast iron grate securely fastened •thereon. Said brick in said wells to be laid up in mortar composed of one part good Portland cement and two parts Clean, sharp sand. ' built and a steel bridge At statian 28 plus 70 there-shall be twerity-sbff (26) feet long with a con-, crete floor, according to plans and specifications hereto attached CRUSHED STONE, KINDS, ETC. ( ■ The crushed stone shall be placed on the roadbed to a width of ten (10) feet and shall be ten (10) inches , deep in the center and eight (8) inches at the sides, and shall be placed on the north side of .roadbed, leaving a space of three (3) feet from north shoulder of grade to edge'of stone. The upper three (3) inches of said stone .shall be composed of screenings. All material to be placed on grade in a neat and workmanlike manner. The stone shalL be graded in before final acceptance. ‘ All stone must be sq crushed that at least 80 per cent of the same will pass through a two-inch ring. Where stone is unloaded all coarser particles shall be raked to the bottom. Said stone shall be equ&l to the pro- ' duct of the Linn Grove or Decatur i quarries. STIPULATIONS. The work as it progresses will be ’ laid out by the engineer, and stakes set by him must be preserved. The material for the various improvements shall b 6 on the ground before the old material is removed. The Board of Commissioners, the engineer and superintendent reserve the right to inspect the material used and condemn the same if necessary and all material so condemned shall be removed from the right-of-way and not used.at any time in the construction of said Improvement / It is expressly understood that the contractor is not compelled to place ■ in any tile, culverts, bridges or ap- J proaches at any private lane or crossing, road, etc., and it any fence, post, 'j or similar matter be within the limits of the right-of-way of the proposed | improvement is not removed by the » party to whom they belong after hav- ? ing had sufficient notice then the con- ; tractor shall remove the sa'tne. It is expressly understood that when 1 the time comes for accepting the road, the contractor shall have the side j drains in good conditlpn and shall « have scraped in the stone and leveled -, the entire road and have in all respects complied with the specifications.
