A FAMOUS NEGRO SPEAKER Reported That Oil Tanks Were Strack By Lightning—Many Going to Bluffton. Geneva. June 27.—Those who attended the lecture given by Dr. M. C. B. Mason, of Cincinnati at the Methodist church last evening, were more . than repaid for going. There has never been a more interesting nor a more forceful speaker before a Geneva audience. Dr. Mason is a colored man and is proud of it. But he is one colored man in thousands. If all the negroes were more like him the race would not be, as he says, the most popular race on earth, being talked of and fought over during their whole existence. Dr .Mason spoke of the missionary work being done in Africa | for the native colored man, not only | there, but here in this country and he spoke in such an entertaining and , instructive way that the hearers were not ready for the end when it came. It is a shame there was not a larger crowd present, but most of the people are waiting for some cheap show to come to town. It was said on the streets last evening that during yesterday "s storm several oil tanks were struck bv light-, ning and the contents destroyed. All I the property was South of Briant and nothing definite could t e learned. There have been no very serious electrical or wind storms in this locality this year and a few dollars will more than cover any damage done from this source. Remember the musical at the Presbvterian church, which is dated for Friday night, June 29th. will have the noted vocalist, Miss Ida G. Henson, of Chicago, as leading singer. Everybody invited.
