If at any time during the contruction 1 of or before the final acceptance of the same the grade should sett's inc contractor shall fill all depressions and restore the same to the original specifications. The grade ahall be of the double I track system of a uniform width of twenty-six (26) feet, except from station 148 to 153, twenty.two (22) feet wide from shoulder to shoulder, with a slope of four (4) inches from center to either side. The grade shall be of the double ■ track system of a uniform width of . twenty-six (26) feet from shoulder to ; shoulder with a slope of four (4) inches : from center to either side. The (sub-grade shall be rolled by the I contractor at such times anc| places as may be deemed necessary by the superintendent or engineer with a roller of not less than six (6) tons in w'eight ' before placing any stone thereon. “ The road-bed shall be made in a ’ smooth and workmanlike manner and > inspected and accepted in 1000 feet sec--1 tions before any material is placed thereon. . ' Grade and line stakes set by the engineer and destroyed by the contractor ' through negligence will be set again at the contractor’s expense. DRAINS. ' The side drains shall be cut not less ■ than eighteen (18) inches below the hip ■ of the grade. All drains to be constructed in a neat and workmanlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet to carry all the 1 water that may accumulate therein and remove-the same from the highway. \v W SEWERS. ' Cast iron sewers shall be placed at the following places: 1 At station 67 plus 90 the contractor 1 shall plac a 12” cast iron sewer 26 1 feet long across lie grade to a depth ' as given by the engineer. At station 29 plus 10. the 24 inch 1 salt glazed sewer now in shall be ■ lengthened to 26 feet by adding tile of 1 the same dimensions and quality. BULKHEADS. , The contractor shall build bulkheads at each end of the above sewers composed of one part Bronson’s Portland cement, one part clean, sharp sand and two parts of crushed stone; all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All bulkheads shall Commence eighteen (18) inches below the pipe and extend six (6) inches above the surface of the stone placed on the road-bed and shall be fifteen inches thick ahd extend eighteen (18) inches on each side of the pipe. 'r~. — WELLS. There shall be wells built at the following places: At station 23 plus 30 two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 38 two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 41 plus 85 two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 53 plus 50 two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 56 plus 80 two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 41 plus 85 and 56 plus 80 the contractor shall connect the wells with a string of 6” first-class tile to be laid across the grade to a depth hereinafter given by the engineer. Said wells to be built of hard burned brick laid flatwise and to extend 18 inche sbelow the bottom of the tile and walled up to the surface of the side drains; said welsl to be not less than two feet in diameter and arched at the top so as to receive an eighteen (IS) inch cast iron grate securely fastened I thereon.

Sa;d br;ck in said wells to be laid up in mortar composed of one part Bronson’s Portland cement and two parts clean, sharp sand. All wells to be connected up with the tile drains already in and the contractor shall furnish al tile for conections and tile to be no smaller than those already in. The contractor shall repair all damage that he may cause to tile drains already in along sides of grade. CRUSHED STONE, KIND. ETC. The stone shall be placed on the subgrade or road-bed to a width of tert (10) feet and ten (10) inches in the center and eight (8) inches at the sides and shall be placed n the side of th road-bed leaving a space of three (3) feet between the shoulder of he grade on the side and the edge of the stone placed thereon. STIPULATIONS. The work as it progresses will be laid out by the enginer and stakes set by him must be preserved. The material for the various improvements shall be on the ground at the place of improvement before the old materials are removed. The Board of Commisisoners, the Engineer and the Superintendent reserve the right to inspect the materials used and condemn the same if necessary and all materials so condemned shall be removed from the right-of-way and not used at any time in the construction of said improvement. Corner stones, landmarks, etc., must be respected by the contractor while making said improvements It is expressly understood that the contractor is not compelled to place in any tile, culverts, bridges or approaches at any priavte lane, crossing, \ road, etc, and if any fence, post or similar matter be within the limits of the right-of.way of the proposed provement is not removed by the party to whom they belong, after having had sufficient notice, then the contractor shall remove the same It is expressly' understood that when the time comes for accepting the road the contractor shall have the side drains in good condition and shall have scraped in the stone and leveled the entire road and have- in all respects complied with the specifications PAYMENTS. All payments for said improvements will be paid for in cash at the Treasurer’s office in the city of Decatur, Indiana, on estimates made by the engineer complying in all respects with the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, approved March 8, 1905.
