L Baumgartner, as J engineer, met at the office of Hirschy & Wintereggs, In Berne, Indiana, and after being duly sworn as prescribed by law we proceed to ]ay out and ‘ straighten said road as show n by that ■ part of our report which is marked ‘ exhibit “A” and which report also • shows the route of the proposed road. Also a profile showing the grade of ( road as established and showing "cuts • and fills,” also location of drains and 1 sewers; said profile is marked exhibit “B,” the same being on file in the office of the Auditor of Adams County. , Indiana. We further find that the above im- ! provement in accordance with the plans and specifications herein set forth would be of public benefit and utility. We further find no claims for dam- ! ages of any kind whatever. . i We further estimate the cost of the 1 proposed improvement to be $7,253.10. j DESCRIPTION OF THE L. O. BEARS ! EXTENSION NO. 1. MACADAM ROAD. Commencing at the south-east corner of the north-east quarter of section twenty-four (24) township twen- ' tv-five (25) north, range thirteen (13) 1 east, on the township line between 1 the townships of Hartford and Wabash, in Adams County. Indiana, at a point in the public highway on the J north side of a free improved gravel ! road; thence running north on and along the public highway between the townships of Hartford and Wabash to 1 the public highway at the north-east 1 corner of the south-east quarter of section thirteen in township twentyfive north, range thirteen east, thence 1 running west on and along the public highway on the half section line run. ning east and west through section thirteen .township twenty-five north. < range thirteen east, to the west boundary line of said section thirteen and to the free improved gravel road on ' the west line of said section thirteen, 1 township twenty-five north range thirteen east and there to terminate The length of the proposed road is ' 10500 feet or two (2) miles. , ROADWAY, GRADE, ETC ( The roadway must be clear of all fences, trees, stumps, logs and all rubbish of whatsoever nature it may be. All stumps must be either grubbed j or blasted out in the drains or on the grade. The right-of-way shall be forty (40) feet In width. If at any time during the construction of or before the final acceptance of the same the grade should settle the contractor shall fill all depressions and restore, the same to the original specifications The grade shall be of the double track system of a uniform width of twenty-six (26) feet from shoulder to shoulder with a slope of four (4) inches from center to either side (except as hereinafter stated.) The subgrade shall be rolled by the contractor at such times and places as mav be deemed necessary by the superintendent or engineer with a roller of not less than six (6) tons in weight before placing any stone thereon. The roadbed shall be made in a smooth and workmanlike manner and inspected and accepted in 1000 feet sections before any material is placed thereon. Grade and line stakes set by the engineer and destroyed by the contractor through negligence will be set again at the contractor’s expense. All of the above grade to be of the double track system except from station 27 plus 40 to 32 plus 15 between bridges a single track. DRAINS. The side drains shall be cut not less than eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade. All drains to be constructed-, in a neat and workmanlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet to carry all the water that may accumulate therein and remove the same from the highway. The contractor shall connect the well on each side of the grade at station 54 -plus 40 with a 6” first-class tile. From station 26 to 32 plus 40 the ditch now on the west side of the road shall be moved west to the edge of the right-of-way by excavating the dirt and placing the same on the right-of-way. The new ditch shall in all respects conform to the old specifications as to depth and width. SEWERS. Cast iron sewers shall be placed at the following stations: At station 42 plus 50 an 8” cast iron sewer 26 feet long. At station 49 an 8” cast iron sewer, 26 feet long. At station 62 plus 60, an 8” cast iron sewer, 26 feet long. At station 78 plus 60, an 8” cast iron sewer, 26 feet long. BULKHEADS. The contractor shall build bulkheads at each end of the above sewers composed of one part Bronson’s Portland cement, one part clean, sharp sand and two parts of crushed stone; all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All bulkheads shall commence eighteen (18) inches below the pipe and extend six (6) inches above the surface of the stone placed on the roadbed and shall be fifteen (15) inches thick and extend eighteen (18) inches on each side of the pipe WELLS. There shall be wells placed at the following places: At station 20 plus 10 two wells, one one each Side of the grade. At station 38, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 42 plus 50, one well on the east side of the grade At station 49 one well, on the east side of the grade. At station 54 plus 40, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 62 plus 60, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 71 plus 60, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 78 plus 60, one well on the south side of the grade. Said wells to be built of hard burned brick laid flatwise and to extend 18 inches below the bottom of the tile and walled up to the surface of the side drains; said wells to be not less than two feet in diameter and arched > top 80 as receive an eighteen <18) inch cast iron grate securely fastened thereon. Said brick in said wells to be laid up in mortar composed of on part Bron-

son's Portland cement and two parts clean sharp sand x All wells to be connected up with the tile drains already in and the contractor shall furnish all tile for connections and tile to be no smaller than those'already in. The contractor shall repair all damage that he may cause to tile drains already in along sides of grade. BRIDGES AND ABUTMENTS. Bridges shall be placed at the following stations: At station 13 a steel bridge 14x16 feet, with concrete floor. At station 27 plus 40, a steel bridge. 16x16 feet, with a concrete floor. At station 32 plus 15, a steel bridge, 16x16 feet, with a concrete floor. The abutments for the above bridges at stations 27 plus 40 and 32 plus 15 shall be built of concrete and the at station 13 shall be built with the stones that are now used in the abutments. The above bridges and abutments shall be built according to the plans and specifications hereto attached. The bridge at station 9» shall be raised one (1) foot and the abutments and wings of the same extended one (1) foot in height. Said extensions to be made with concrete as specified for the bulkheads. .. .CRUSHED STONE, KIND, ETC.... The stone shall be placed on the sub-grade or road-bed to a width of ten (10) feet and ten (10) inches deep in the center and eight (8) inches at the sides and shall be placed on the north and east sides of the road-bed leaving a space of three (3) feet between the shoulder of the grade on the north and east side and the edge of the stone placed thereon except as hereinafter stated. The stone shall be placed on the center of the sub-grade between the bridges at stations 27 plus 40 and 32 plus 15. The upper three inches of said crushed stone shall be composed of screenings. * All material to be placed on the grade in a neat and workmanlike manner. The stone to be graded in before final acceptance. All stone must be so curshed that at least 80 per cent? will pass through a two-inch ring. Where the stone is unloaded all the coarser particles shall be raked to the bottom. Said stone shall be equal to the product of the Linn Grove or Decatur quarries. At approaches to bridges the dirt road shall be stoned for fifty (50) feet on each side. STIPULATIONS. The work as it progresses will be laid out by the engineer and stakes set by him must be preserved. The material for the various improvements shall be on the ground at the place of improvement before the old materials are removed. The Board of Commissioners, the Engineer and the Superintendent reserve the right to inspect the materials used and condemn the same if necessary and all materials so condemned shall be removed from the right-of-way and not used at any time in the construction of said improvement. Corner stones, landmarks, etc, must be respected by the contractor while making said improvements., It is expressly understood that the contractor is not compelled to place in any tile, culverts, bridges or approaches at any private lane, crossing, road, etc., and if any fence, post or similar matter be within the limits of the right-of-way of the proposed improvement is not removed by the party to whom they belong, after having had sufficient notice, then the contractor shall remove the same. It is expressly understood that when the time comes for accepting the road the contractor shall have the side drains, in good condition and shall have scraped in the stone and leveled the entire road and have in all respects complied with the specifications. PAYMENTS. All payments for said improvements will be paid for in cash at the Treasurer’s office in the city of Decatur, Indiana, on estimates made by the engineer complying in all respects with the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, approved March 8.-1905. teen (19) and thirty (30) to the northwest corner of said section thirty (36) and there to terminate The estimate length of the proposed road is 5500 feet or 1.04 miles. ROADWAY, GRADE. ETC. At station 55 plus 2, a 10” cast iron sewer twenty-six (26) feet long. BULKHEADS. The contractor shall build bulkheads at ach end of the above sewers composed of one part Bronson s Portland cement, one part clean, sharp sand and two parts of crushed stone; all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All wells to be connected up with the tile drains already in and the contractor shall furnish all tile for connections and tile to be no smaller than those already in. The contractor shall repair all damages that he may cause to tile drains already in along the sides of the grade. REPAIR OF ABUTMENTS. At station 43 the contractor shall lengthen the wings of the abutments already in, 4 feet. Said extensions shall in all respects conform to those already in. CRUSHED STONE, KIND, ETC. The stone shall be placed on the subgrade or roadbed to a width of ten (10) feet and ten (10) Inches deep in the center and eight (8) inches at the sides and shall be placed on the south side of the road-bed, leaving a space of three (3) feet between the shoulder of the grade on the side and the edge of the stone placed thereon. The upper three (3) inches of said crushed stone shall be composed of screenings. DRAINS. The side drains shall be cut not less than eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade. All drains to be constructed in a neat and workmanlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet to carry all the water that may accumulate therein and remove the same from the highway. SEWERS. There shall be cast iron sewer/placed at the following stations: At station 30 plus 45, a 6” cast iron sewer 26 feet long. At station 46 plus 20, a 6” cast iron sewer, 26 -feet long. At station 55, a 6” cast iron sewer 26 >»• feet long. At station 90 plus 9, a 6” cast iron sewer, 26 feet long. At station 20 plus 60 the contractor shall connect the wells on each side of the grade with a first class 6” tile, laid across the grade. * BULKHEADS. The contractor shall build bulkheads. at each end of the above sewers com* posed of one part Bronson’s Portland < cement, one 'part clean, sharp sand and two parts of crushed stone;' all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All bulkheads shall commence eighteen (18) inches below the pipe and extend six (6) inches above the surface of the stone placed on the road-bed and shall be fifteen (15) Inches thick and extend eighteen (18) inches on each side of the pipe. WELLSAt. station 18 plus 90 two wells, one on each side of grade. « At station 20 plus 60, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 30 plus 45, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 46 plus 20, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 55, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 77, two wells, one on each side of the grade. At station 90 plus 90, two wells, one on each side of the grade. Said wells to be built of hard burned brick laid flatwise and to extend 18 inches below the bottom of the tile and walled up to the surface of the side drains; said wells to be not less than two feet in diameter and arched at the top so as to receive an eighteen (18) inch cast iron grate securely fastened thereon. • Said brick in said wells to be laid up in mortar cotnposed of one part Bronson’s Portland cement and two parts clean, sharp sand. All wells to be connected up with tile drains already in and the contractor shall furnish all tile for connections and tile be no smaller than those already in. The contractor shall repair all damages that he may cause to the drains already in along the sides of the grade. REPAIR OF ABUTMENTS. At station 39 plus 15 the- contractor shall "extend the wings of the abutments four (4) feet. Said extensions shall'conform in all respect with the wings already in. CRUSHED STONE, KIND, ETC. The stone shall be placed on the sub-grade or road-bed to a width of ten (10) feet and ten (10) inches in the center and eight (8) inches at the sides and shall be placed on the north side of the road-bed leaving a space of three (3) feet between the shoulder of the grade on the side and the edge of the stone placed thereon. The upper three (3) inches of said crushed stone shall be composed of, screenings. All material to be placed on the grade in a neat and workmanlike manner. The stone to be graded in before final accptance. , All stone to be so crushed that at least 80 per cent, will pass through a two-inch ripg. Where stone is unloaded all the coarser particles shall be raked to the bottom. Said stone to be equal to the product of thd Linn Grove or Decatur quarries. STIPULATIONS The work as it progresses wil Ibe laid out by the engineer and stakes set by him must be preserved. The material for the various improvements site. 11 be on the ground at the place of improvement before the old materials are removed. ' , ■ / The Board of Commissioners, the Engineer and thte Superintendent reserve the right to inspect the materials used and condemn the same if necessary and all the materials so condemned shall be removed from the right-of-way and not used at any time in the construction of said improvement. Corner stones, landmarks, etc., must be preserved by the contractor while making said improvements. It Is expressly understood that the contractor is not compelled to place in any tile, culverts, bridges or approaches at any private lane, crossing,, rogd, etc., and if any fence, post or similar matter be within the limits of the right-of-way of the proposed improvement is not removed by the party , to whom they belong after having had sufficient notice, then the contractor shall remove the same. It is expressly understood that when the time comes for accepting the road the contractor shall have the side drains in good condition and shall have scraped in the stone and leveled the entire road and have in all-respects complied with the specifications. PAYMENTS. All payments for said improvements will be paid for in cash at the Treasurer’s office in the city of Decatur, Indiana, on estimates furnished by the engineer complying in all respects with the Acts of the General Asembly of the State of Indiana, approved March 8; 3 1905.
