Roadway. «l’a<le. MrThe roadway must be clear of all Tenets trees, stumps, logs and all other rubbish of whatsoever nature it may be. All stumps must be grubbed blasted out in drains or on grade. The right-of-way shall be tort. (40) feet in width. If at any time during the construction of or before final acceptance of the same the grade should settle the contractor shall fill an depressions and restore the same to j the original specifications. The grade shall be of the doubletrack system of a uniform width of twenty-six (26) feet from shoulde to shoulder, with a slope of'four (4) | inches from center to either side.. The sub-grade shall be rolled b the contractor at such times and I places as may be deemed necessary bv the superintendent or engineer with a roller of not less than six (C) tons in weight before placing any stone thereon. . The road-bed shall be made in a smooth and workmanlike manner and be inspected and accepted in 1.000 ft. sections before any material is placed thereon G ade and line stakes set by the engineer and destroyed by the convac or through negligence will be set again at the contractor’s expense. Drains. The side drains shall be cut not less than eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade. Wells. There shall be wells built at the following stations: At station 2 plus 20 one on each side of grade. At station 15 plus 35 one on each side of grade At station 24 one on west side ot grade. At stations 4 repair weM. At station 93 plus 25 one well on east side of grade. At station 116 one well on each side of grade. Said wells to be built of har t burned brick laid flatwise and to extend eighteen (18) inches below the bottom of the tile and walled up to the surface of the side drains said wells to be not less than two feet in diameter and arched at top so as to receive an eighteen (18) inch cast iron grate securely fastened thereon. Said brick in said wells to be laid in mortar composed of one pa r t Bronson's Portland Cement and two f 2) parts of clean sharp sand. All wells to be connected up with tile drain already in, the contractor to furnish all tile for connections, and tile to be no smaller than that air >r shall repair all .Tat . ._e may cause to tile grains already in along sides of
grade. Add one foot to the abuttments at station 30, and repair gridge byadding three stringers and placing on the same the necessary plank. ('rushed Stone, Kind, Etc. The crushed stone shall be placed on the sub-grade or road bed to a width of ten (19) feet and shall be ten (10) inches deep in center and eight (8) einchs at sides, and shall be placed on the east side of road-bed, leaving a space three (3) feet between the east shoulder cf grade and the edge or stone placed thereon. The upper three inches of said crushed stone shall be composed of screenings. All material to be placed on grade in a neat and workmanlikemanner. The stone to be graded in before final acceptance. All stone must be so crushed that at least eighty (80) per cent will pass through a 2-inch ring. Where stone is unloaded all the coarser particles shall be raked to the bottom. Said stone shall be equal to the product of the Linn Grove or Decatur quarries. At approaches to bridges or arches the dirt road shall be stoned for 50 feet on each side. Stipulations. The work as it progresses will be laid out by the engineer and stakes set by him must be preserved. The material for the various improvements shall be on the ground at the place of improvement before the old materials are removed. The Board of Commissioners, the engineer and the superintendent reserve the right to inspect the materials used and condemn the same if necessary and all the materials so condemned shall be removed from the right-of-way and not used at any time in the construction of said improvement. Corner-stones, landmarks, etc. must be respected by the contractor while making said improvement. It is expressly understood that the contractor is not compelled to place any tile, culverts, bridges or approaches at any private lane, crossing. road, etc., and if any fence, post or similar matter be within the limits of the right-of-way of tn? proposed improvement is not removed by the party to whom they belong after having sufficient notice, then the contractor shall remove the same.
It is expressly understood that when the time comes for accep’i- g the road, the contractor shall have the side drains in good condition and shall have scraped in the stone and leveled the entire road and have in all respects complied with the specifications. The telephone poles within the right-of-way shall be removed .o the edge of the right-of-way by the parties owning them when so ordered by the contractor. Payments. All payments for said improvement will be paid for in cash at the Treasurer’s office in the city of Decatur, Indiana, on estimates made by the engineer, complying in a’l respects with the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, approved March 8, 1905. THE AHR MACADAM ROAD. To the Honorable Board of Commissioners of Adams County, Ind.: We, the undersigned viewers and engineer appointed by your Hono: able Board at the February term. 1906, and in pursuance to the within order of said petition would most respectfully submit the following report. In pursuance to said order we, L. W. Lewton, John T. Ault as viewers, and L. L. Baumgartner as engineer, met at the Auditor’s office at Decatur, Ind., and after being dulysworn as prescribed by law we proceeded to examine, lay out and straighten said road as shown by that part of our report which is marked exhibit “A” and which report shows the route of the proposed road. Also a profile showing the grade of said road as established and showing “cuts and fills,” also location of drains and sewers, said profile is marked exhibit “B,” the same being on file in the office ot the County Auditor. We further find that the proposed improvement in accordance with the plans and specifications herein set forth would be cf public benefit and utility. We further find no claims for damages of any k'nd whatever. We estimate the cost of the proposed improvement to be nine thousand nine hundred- eighty-five (9,985) dollars.
Description of the Ahr Road. Commencing at the southeast corner of section eighteen (18) in township twenty-eight (28) north, range fifteen east in Adams county, Indiana, thence running north between section 17 and 18, 7 and 8, 5 and 6 to the northeast corn-T of section six (6) and at the county line between Adams and Allen counties and there to terminate. The length of said road is 16,070 ft., or 3.04 miles. Roadway, Grade, Etc. The roadway must be clear of all fences, trees, stumps, logs and all other rubbish of whatsoever nature it maj - be. All stumps must be grubbed or blasted out in drains or on grade. The right-of-way shall be forty (40) feet in width. If at any time during the construction of or before final acceptance of the same the grade should settle the contractor shall fill all depressions and restore the same to the original specifications. The grade shall be of the doubletrack system of a uniform width of twenty-six (26) feet from shoulder to shoulder, with a slope of four (4) inches from center to either side. The sub-grade shall be rolled by the contractor at such times and places as may be deemed necessary by the superintendent or engineer with a roller of not less than six (6) tons in weight before placing any stone thereon. The road-bed shall be made in a smooth and workmanlike manner and be inspected and accepted in 1,000 ft. sections nefore any material is placed thereon. Grade and line stakes set by the engineer and destroyed by the contractor through negligence will be set again at the contractor’s expense.
Drains. The side drains shall be cut no’ less than eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade. All drains to be constructed in a neat and workmanlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet to carry all water that may accumulate therein and remove same from highway. At station 132 a 6-inch cast iron sewer shall be placed • across the grade, said pipe to be 26 ft. in length. At station 109 plus 20 the sewer tile already in shal be lengthened to 26 feet. There shall be also bulkheads built at each end of the above described sewer pipe and tile composed of one (1) part Bronson s Portland cement, one (1) part dea sharp sand and two (2) parts of crushed stone, all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two-inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All bulkheads shall commence eighteen (18) inches below the pipe -and extend six (6) inches above the surface of the stone placed on the road-bed and shall be fifteen (15) inches thick and expend eighteen (18) inches on each side of the pipe. Wells. There shall be wells at the following places. At station 59 two wens. At station 72 plus 50 two wells. At station 95 plus 12 two wells. At station 105 plus 40 two wells. At station 139 plus 25 two wells. At station 13 plus 2v the two wells shall be repaired according ic following specifications. cadam Road. Commencing at the northwest cor” ner of section thirty-one (31) i township twenty-eight (28) north, range fifteen (15 east, in Union ownship. Adams County, Indiana, ind running thence east between sections 30 and 31, 29 and 32, 28 ind 33 to the northeast corner ot section thirty-three (33) in said ownship county and state aforesaid, and there to terminate. The length of said road is 15,800 ft., or 2.99 miles. Roadway, Grade. Etc. The roadway must be clear of all ’ences, trees, stumps, logs and all other rubbish of whatsoever nature it may be. All stumps must be grubbed or blasted out in drains or on grade. The right-of-way shall be forty (40) feet in width.
