V. Buokmaster aud C. E. Bollinger, as viewers; and L. L. Baum gartner, as engineer; met at the office of 1. N. Vely, in Geneva, Adams county, Indiana, and after be ing duly swum as prescribed by law, we proceeded to examine, lay out and straighten said road as shown oy that p»rt of our report which is markeu exhibit “A,” and which shows the route of the proposed road. Tbe roadway must be clear of all fences, trees, stumps, logs and, all rubbish of whatsoever nature it may be. All stumps must be grubbed or blasted out in drains oi on grade. The right of way shall be forfy (40) feet in width. NOTICE. All parties along said road from station lb to 71 plus 59, except one, gave their consent to tne viewers and engineer for the contractor. if necessary, to have an additional two (2) feet of right of way on each side of grade in order to secure dirt to make grade as shown on profile. The one excepted was not seen but it is believed that he will also give his consent to the same. If at any time during the onestruotion of. or before the final acceptance of the same, the grade should settle, the contractor shall till all depressions and restore the same to tne original specifications. The grade shall be ot the double track system and of a uniform width of twenty six (26) feet from shoulder to shoulder with a slop? of four (4) inches from center to either side. The sub grade shall be rolled by the contractor at such times and places as may be deemed necessary by the superintendent or engineer with a roller of not less than six (6)tons weight before placing any stone thereon. Tne roadbed shall be madi i\ a smooth and workmanlike man ner and inspected and accepted in 1,000 foot sections before any material is placed thereon. Grade and line stakes set by the engineer and destroyed by contractor through negligence will be set again at the contractor’s ex penee. DRAINS. The side drains shall be cut not less than eighteen (18) inches below the hip of the grade, said drains to be constructed in a neat and work manlike manner with sufficient fall and outlet io convey all water that may accumulate therein from said highway. At the intersection of street with said road at station four (4) there shall be placed on each side in bot om of side drains a six (6) inch o*st iron pipe thirty eight (38) feet long parallel with said road. There shall be placed across grade station 71 plus 50 a 10 inch cast iron sewer pipe twenty six (26) feet long, and at station 85 a 10 inch cast iron sewer pipe twenty six (26) feet long. At station 65 plus 32 the contractor shll furnish salt glazed sewer tile the same size as those already in and lengthen said drain to twenty six (26) feet. WELLS. There shall be wells at th? following places on each side of the grade: At station 4, 2 wells. At staton 19, 2 wells. At station 96, 2 wells. At station 109 plus 60, 2 wells. At station 115, 2 wells. Said wells to be built of the best hard burned brick, laid flatwise and to extend to eighteen (18) inches below the bottom of the tile and then walled to the surface of the side rains. Said brick in said wells to be laid up in mortar composed of one (1) part Bronson's Portland cement, and two (2) parts of clean sharp sand. Said wells <o be net less than two (2) feet in diameter and arched at the top so as to receive an eighteen (18) inch oast iron grate securely fastened thereon. Said wells to be connected up with the tile drains, the contractor to furnish all tile for connections, no tile to be smaller than that already in. BRIDGES AND CULVERTS. At station 19, lengthen the culvert already in to twenty six (26) feet. At station 121 plus 38 lenghen the abutments already in to eighteen (18) feet and add six (6) inches on top. and add also four (4) wings, each four (4) feet long. Said extensions to be begun at the same depth of the abutments already in On these abutments shall be placed an iron bridge 8 feet long and 16 feet roadway according to plans and specifications hereto attached. BULKHEADS. At each end of the oast iron sewer pipes there shall be consruoted bulkbeads composed of one (1) part Bronson’s Portland cement, one (1) part clean sharp sand and two (2) parts crushed stone; all parts of said stone that will not pass through a two (2) inch ring shall not be used in said concrete. All bulkbeads shall commence eighteen (18) inches below tbe pipe and extend six (6) inches above the surface of the stone oq& road ted, and shall be twenty (20) inches thick and extend eighteen (18) in cries on ftch side of

In the portion of road between stations 11 and 38 the material already ou grade may be left there and utilized in the coristruotion of said road except from that portion of said roadbed which will have to be loweared as shown on profile of said road, from this portion the material (gavel and cusaed stone) shall be removed to permit cutting of grade and the same may then again be placed on the road bed and utilized in the construction of said road; except also from station 0 to 11 the crushed stone shall be placed to a width of twelve (12) feet, that is six (6) feet on each side from center of grade, and to a depth of twelve (12) inches in oen ter and ten (10) inches on the sides the upper four (4) inches of said stone to be composed of screenings. All material to be placed on grade in a neat and workmanlike man ner. The stone to be graded in before final acceptance. All stone to be so crusned that at least 80 percent will pass thiough a two (2) meh ring. Where stone are unloaded all the coarser par tides shall be raked to the bottom of grade. Said stone to be equal to the products of the Linn Grove quarries. At points where road crosses arches the dirt track shall be stoned forty (40) feet on each side. STIPULATIONS. The work as it progresses will be laid out by the enigneer and stakes set by him must be preserved. The materials fcr the various improvements shall be on the ground at place of improvement before the old materials are removed. The board of county commission ers. the engineer and the superin tendent reserve the right to inspect the materials used, and condemn the same if necessary, and all ma terials thus condemned shall be re moved from the the right-of way and not used at any time in the construction of the improvement. Corner stones, landmarks, etc., must be respected by the contractor while making said improvement. I » expressly understood that the c • actor is not compelled to place in ' culverts, tile, bridges, grade or ap, cries at any private ane, crossing, road, etc,, or if any fence, post or similar matter that may be within the limit of right of-wav of the proposed improve ment is not removed by the parties io whom they belong, after having bad sufficient notice, then the con tractor shall remove the same. Telephone companies who own lines along the route of said im provement shall remove poles to the edge of rght-of-way. It is expressly understood that when the time comes for accepting the road, the contractor shall have the side drains in good condition and shall have scraped in the stone and leveled the entire road, and shall have, in all respects, complied with the specifications. PAYMENTS. All payments for said improvement will be paid for in cash at the treasurer's office in the city of De oatur, Adams county, Indiana, on estimates made by the engineer, complying in all respects with the Acts of the General Assembly of the state of Indiana, approved March 8, 1905. ESTIMATES. Total length of proposed improve ment is 14,292 feet, or 2.7 miles. No. yards of crushed stone for road 4,550. No. yards of crushed stone for approaches 150.
