Will Teeple, a well known carpenter fell ten feet from a ladder t while working on the Joseph < Smith warehouse Thmalay. He t was carrying a window frame, I missed his footing and fell to the I ground. His right shoulder and i side were slightly sprained, but he will be at work in a few days. His escape from more serious injury was miraculous. The greenest county in Indiana is as usual old Adams oounty, and the greenest spot in this great oounty is A precinct of the third ward, where the democrats made a gain' of nineteen votes. A few other precincts in the county held their own, but this is the only precinct where any material gain was made. The boys on that board thought a democratic landslide had struck the country, and were woefully surprised when they heard the results. Alfred Hilty, son of Jacob (“Tennesee”) Hilty at Linn Grove, returned from the Klondyke gold fields, arriving' here Wednesday morning. He brought with him two fine Alaska dogs. Mr. Hilty intends to spend the winter with his family here and return in March. He and a partner have a good claim in the gold fields that is worth thousands of dollars. He says that Amos Srrunger of this place is still in Alaska in the neigh borhood of his claim and is geting along nicelv.— Berne Witness. A fair-sized audience greeted the performance of ‘Tngomar" at the Bosse opera house Wednesday night, and were given a rare treat for their trouble in attending, as it was one es the best companies that have given a performance here ’this season. The cast was a well-balanced one, and several members of the same deserve special mention for their remarkable work, especially among these were John A, Preston, as “Ingomar,” Mary Atheling as Parthenia and Arthur Mack as 'Polydore,” and their work showed that they were stars in their line, and their efforts were readily applauded by the audience. This company is making all the larger ctiies surrounding us and Mr. Bosse is to be congratulated upon his good luck in inducing this company to come here.

A horse hitched to a wagon in which John H. Banta and G. Mercer , of Willshire, were seated ran away, Thursday, near the intersection of Shannon street and the Willshire road. Messrs. Ba nta and Mercer brought a load of poultry to this town during the day and were on their way home when the mishap occurred. The contents of the wagon were strewn along the roaa and the occupants thrown from the seat. Mr. Merorer sustained slight injuries to the left knee and right shoulder. Mr. Banta escaped unharmed. — Van Wert Bulletin. Mrs. L. L. Syphers has filed suit in common pleas court, praying to be divorced from L. L. Syphers. The petition cites numerous causes, asking’separation, among them, neglect, extreme cruelty and threatening conduct toward her while intoxicated, and because of which treatment she. and the two daughters born to them, have been compelled to leave him. Mr. Syphers formerly lived in this city as proprietor of the Wayne hotel. He came from Fort Wayne. Before going to Fort Wayne he was engaged in the mercantile and insurance business in Willshire and the restaurant business at Decatur. Mrs. Syphers and the young daughters have been at the home of her parents near Steele, Indiana, since last July.—Van Wert Times.
Father Wil sen was most agreeably surprised Wednesday, when a large portion of his congregation burst in upon him to remind him that he bad reached his sixtieth milestone. The surprise had been well planned and tbe victim was taken unaware, and forced to admit that he had practically forgotten the chief event of his life. This surprise, however, proved to be a double one. as up n studying out the situation. Father Wilken discovered that it was also his namesday. which, means the day on which he was ordained into the pr’.esth.- d He -.. resented with a beautiful fiftydeLar leather rocking chair, as a token of the high esteem in which he is held by h-'s congregation. The evening was spent in a nice social rime and at a late hour all adjourned, wishing Father Wilken many more such happy events.

A new real estate firm was launched in Deoatur Saturday, the firm name being Reppert, Litterer & Fruchte. The first member of the firm is the well known Auctioneer Col. Fred Reppert and the two latter includes the popular young lawyers who recently opened an office here. Each member of the firm is a hustler, active, energetic and thoroughly business-like, and their future success is assured. In another column appears their first advertisement, in which they ask you to list your property with them if you want it sold or rented. Their announcements will appear from time to time, and their friends know they will succeed. Their office is over M. Burns’ harness store. Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D E. Scott occurred the wedding of their daughter, Miss Maude, to Mr. Milton Hower. ’The affair w is a quiet one. only the immediate relatives being present, the ceremony being performs 1 by the Rev. The voung couple were the recipients of many beautiful and costly presents. Taey will be at home in a few days to their many friends on North Seventh street, where their furnished home awaits them. Ihe Democrat extends congratulations.
W. H. Church, a contractor and architect of this city, received injuries last Saturday evening that later resulted in his death. The accident occurred in front of republican headquarters, where a crowd had congregated to hear a speech by Mr. Hendee, and listen to the campaign musio. Tae unfortunate Mr. Church was just crossing the street and had just stepp’d from the sidewalk to cross over to the Mmeh store to tell~his wife that he ooncluded for the speech. Harry Armantrout came driving along and the young horse he was driving was shying and scaring at the band music, and ran against Mr. Church, knocking him to the street pavement. Be fell to the pavement on the back of his head, causing a fracture of the skull and concussion of the frontal part of the brain. He became delirious about ten o’clock and remained in that condition until the

All rural carriers in Adams county will enjoy a vacation on Thanksgiving day, orders to that effect having been received by the postmasters of the oounty from the head of the department at Washington, D. C. The postmaster general directs that no deliveries be made on the rural free delivery routes on that day, but patrons can cal] at the postoffices and receive their mail on that day. Thanksgiving day is one of the few vacations which the rural carriers are given to observe. They receive an order each year to this effect. —Another crowd who are anxiously anticipating the occasion is the school children as they will have a holiday from Wednesday evening until the following Monday.
Miss Preme, district inspector of the Woman’s Relief Corps, was in the city Friday night, and her visit was a pleasant one for the order. She was accompanied by a crowd of Geneva ladies, members of the lodge, among whom were Mesdames Watson, Hale, Mason, McCollum, Veeley, Kelley, Barrett Brayton, McKissic Fenstler, Heffner, Briggs, Pojen and Misses Martin, Burko and Connor. A big supper was served at the hall, the guests arriving at 3:17 over the G. R. & I Immediately after the feast Miss Premer began the inspection work, and her report of the local lodge will be a very favorable one. After the work the visiting as well as the home ladies gave drills, and their work was highly praised by Miss Premer. The meeting was a pleasant and profitable one. A small blaze occurred Friday about eight o'clock at the residence of Daniel Haley on Mercer avenue, doing considerable damage to the house and a summer kitchen. The only theory that can be ad vanned as to the origin of the fire is that the stove became overheated, as did the stove pipe, which ran through a board partition into the chimney, causing the timber to ignite and burn. The blaze then ran along the rafters into the main part of the house, which was extinguished before any material damage was done. Mrs. Haley was the first to notice the blaze and promptly sent in the alarm , then proceeded to do her utmost in putting the blaze out. She had succeeded fairly well, when tire company No. 2 arrived and finished the job. Company No. 1 undoubtedly got mixed up in the signals, as they made a run to Clayton Dailey’s residence in the north end, getting the names of Haley and Dailey mixed. The damage to Mr. Haley’s property will amount to something like fifty dollars, which is fully covered by insurance.

Sheriff Smith brought the prisoner from Fort Wayne a few days ago and be was held under a bond of 13.000 on the charge of assault with intent to kill Carl Peckham, Monroeville. Eirly this morning Tuigg arose from his bunk, broke a vinegar bottle which was on a table and, using a jagged piece of glass, sawed an ugly wound in his throat from ear to ear. He was prevented from completing his work by the interference of fellowpnsoners. ...Legal Advertising...
