No other bid was’ made i but attorney Beuel of Chicago representing stockholders asked that ■ the sale be held open as he expected ; some other bidders. Nichols <t Pittman raised their bid to $3 ?. 5 x and asked that the sale close. Receiver Ehinger held the sale open until two o'clock when he ‘‘knocked it off" to the bidders. C. J. Lutz came home from Lafayette Friday morning. The operation upon his daughter, Miss Jeane 1 will be performed tomorrow or Monday and she will have to remain at Lafayette a month to receive treatment. The operation is not considered a dangerous one. Men were busily engaged Friday putting in the new cement side walks from the south end of the depot to the corner of Seventh and Madison streets for the G. R. & Irailroad which will when completed furnish an exit from that part of the road to Madison street and nearer access to the city. While all the big railroads of the country are complaining! of the great shrinkage in traffic the Clover Leaf never says a word for its making money. This year is proving to bejthe best that the Leaf has ever experienced'and Leaf officials are jubilant. The monthly report for May is forth coming and awaited expectantly by officials who are interested in Clover Leaf finances. It wjjlno doubt be a hummer.
