Rev. J. C. White arrived home Sunday, after a nearly two months' trip through the west and northwest, which he says was the most delightful journey of his life. He traveled by rail over 7,622 miles, through the most beautiful country that can be found on God’s footstool, and Rev. He is in excellent health, “Never felt better,” he says, and he certainly looks it. The trip out to Los Angeles was made with but little delay, going byway of Chicago to Denver and Salt Lake City to their destination, where they attended the national conference for ? mouth. From there a party of three, including besides Rev. White, Rev. H. N. Herrick, of Kokomo and Rev. L. J. Naftzger, of Muncie, decided upon a roundabout homeward trip. Going north from Los Angeles they visited San Francisco, Portland, Tacoma, Seattle, Vancouver and various other cities, thence came east through the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin to Chicago.

Its many of the larger cities throughout the state and nation there is to be an experiment made on the Fourth of July of having a noiseless celebration, and the use of deadly fire crackers and toy pistols ■will ba prohibited. In Chicago the Fourth will be as tame as a camp meeting, the reading of the Declarwiti«D of Independence being about the most strenuous thing on the airogram. The Chicago experiment will be closely watched by other <3ite©s and if it proves a success may ''fce adopted next year. A dispatch from Richmond says: “There is but little change in the condition of John W. Terrell, the Bluffton murderer since his admis son to the Eastern Indiana Insane Hospital and Medical Superintendent Smith says there is no probability of appreciable improvement nor decline for some time to come. “Terrell remains is a stupor”, say Dr. Smith, 'and but little signs of intelligence come from his eyes. He is not violent, nor raving.” Because he evaded the postal regulations by sending a letter wrapped in a newspaper through the mail, and because he refused to pay the $lO penalty imposed by law, E. Since the sale of the C. H. & D. Railroad, to a syndicate of New \ork and Boston capitalists. Indianapolis railroad men have begun to see another move in the sale of the road, says the Indianapolis Sentinel. Yesterday it was said by a number of local railroad men that the sale meant a direct road to St. Louis by either the Pere Marquette or the C. H. A D. over the Clover Leaf. The C. H. A D. now runs trains to St. Louis by way of Decatur 111. It is said that after the two roads are in working shape at Toledo they will begin running to St. Louis over the Clover Leaf. This theory of some of the officials who are in a position to know came as a surprise. It is thought definite announcement in the matter will be made in a few days as it is likely to take place.

The grain elevator of Singer Bros, at Dixon, was destroyed by tire late Thursday entailing the most severe loss the business interests of that town has suffered in many years. About the hour of eleven o'clock the blaze was discovered in the elevator by Lewis Davis who had been to Monroeville and drove pistthe Singer property on his way home. An alarm was quickly sounded and the citizens rallied to save adjoining property. The blaze in the elevator had made, such i headway that no power could stay I he progress of the ti imes and the i building was abandoned. All efforts j was centered on saving the hard- j ware store of D. J. Lire and son, located on the north side of the | street, opposite the elevator. As- j ter a hard tight lasting two hours ■ the work of the fighters was award- ' ed and the Lare property saved from the elevator was the safe and office funiture. The office was an addition on the east side of the main building and was at the start the farthest away from the blaze which had its origin in the engine room. Aside from the machinery the elevator contains two thousand bushels of oats, one thousand barrels of flour and forty tons of coal. Numbered among the contents were a car load of wheat and sixteen barrels of flour received from Decatur only a few hours q-e fore the fire.—Van Wert Bnjletin.
