Stanton Co., 325 Dearborn street Chicago, 111. 48 Dr. J. W. Younge, of Fort Wayne, well known in this city is now making a tour of the Holy land and writes she following interesing let ter of his visit to the Saviour's tomb. “We have just returned from a trip to Gezer, some twenty milesi west of Jerusalem, and about the same distance east of Joppa. Here the English Palestine Exploration society has been for several years excavating. They have discovered several different strata of cities built upon each other. From the two lower strata, which belong to the Neolitthic period it has obtained a large number of objects in stone, bone and coarse pottery the work of the cave dwellers, who preceded the Semites in the occupation of 1 Palestine In the third and fourth j strata they discovered some very ’ interesting specimens of bronze. I This represents a period prior to the immigration of the Israelites. ( when Gezer was occupied by the | Semites or Canaanites. In the fifth t and sixth strata, which corresponds to the Hebrew occupation of ( infant and adult sacrifice. It is t impossible to say whether this ( custom was common to the mixed ( race of Jew and Canaanitte or f practically exclusively by the ( Canaanites. In the fourth strata j which represents the Syrio Egyp- j tian including the Maocabeean ] period, have been found some re- t markable inscribed stones, which < hold out hope that Borne written , documents may yet be found, A- - yiape and tombs have also been discovered here. Since writing the above, Mrs. Younge and 1 1 have paid our second visit to Gordon’s Calvary. I have no doubt as Regards this being the tomb in which Jesus was laid, after the crucifixtion. Everything points to it as being the tom b of Joseph of Arimathea. We were accompained by two ministers from the United States, and after entering the tomb and seeing where Jesus lay, standing beside that sacred spot a brief religious service was held. There are places for three bodies within the tomb but it is evident that only one was ever occupied. That was the one in which the body of Christ lay. The other two were never completed. A visit to these sacred places gives us new ideas and correct ones, of the many things written in the old and new testaments. Jerusalem is the shrine to which all christendom looks and comes. Pilgrims are coming and going every day from all parts of the earth. We will leave for Egypt in the morning. All well and I happy. J. W. Younge. ,

A subscriber about seven years in arrears in a Smithville paper was dying. The editor dropped in to see him. "How do you feel?” said the pencil pusher. "All looks bright before me,” gasped the subscriber. “I thought so” said the editor. "You'll see the blaze in about ten minutes.” You have noticed the letter “E” at the head of all physicians’ prescrip tions. It is derived from the Latin recipe, the imperative meaning “take.” The little dart over the tail of the “R” is the symbol of Jove, the Latin god of Jupiter, and invests the writer with his authority—by the power of Jupiter. Translated properly the sign reads, “By Jupiter, you take this.”
A Startling Test.—To save a life, Dr. T. G. Merritt, of Mehoopany, Pa., made a startling test resulting in a wonderful cure. He writes: “A patient was attacked with violent hemorrhages, caused by ulceration of the stomach. I had often found Electric Bitters excellent for acute stomach and liver troubles so I prescribed them. The patient gained from the first, and has not had an attack in 14 months.” Electric Bitters are positively guaranteed for dyspepsia, indigestion, constipation and kidney troubles. Try them. Only 50c at Blackburn A - Christen’s drug store. While letting the electric light down near the Clover Leaf to clean the lamp, Jake Eady came near seri ously injuring several boys who were playing directly under the lamp. For some unknown reason while letting the lamp down the cable broke hurling it to the street. Jake yelled just in time for the boys to run and the lamp narrowly missed them. This should teach the little tots that the street is not the place to play, as they never know what danger they are in. The fall never broke the electric light. A Sure Thing—lt is said that nothng is sure except death and taxes, but that is not altogether true. Dr. Ring's New Discover? for consumption Is a' sure cure for all lung and thfoat troubles. Thousands can testify to that. Mrs. C. B. VanMetre of Shepherdtown, W. Va., says: “I had a severe case of bronchitis and for a year tried everything I heard of, but got no relief. One bottle of Dr. King’s New Discovery then cured me absolutely.” It’s infallible for croup, whooping cough, grip, pneumonia and consumption. Try it. It’s guaranteed by Blackburn & Christen, Druggists. Trial bottle free. Regular sizes 50c and SI. The Decatur Cemetery Association met Thursday at the office of Dr. J. S. Coverdale, the matter of business’being to select a’president and trustee to till the vacancy caused by the death of Judge Studabaker. The latter has served in both these positions since the organization of the association and his counsel has always proven wise. Solomon Linn was chosen as president of the association and the van cancy on the board of trustees was tilled by the selection of Sylvester Spangler. The new officials assume their duties at I once. The other officers remain the same as before.
The city will drill a water well near the Adams County Bank, work on the'same to Iwgin this week. A. N. Steele has the contract and now has his machinery on the scene. They’re the best in the world for liver, stomach and bowels. Purely vegetable. Never grip. Only 25c at Blackbuen & Christen’s drug store.
■ John Nelson, a well known young man of near Monroe left for Denver, Colorado, where he will accept a position as teacher in the same school where Revillo Scherer is teaching, the latter having secured the place for him. Both are clean, bright young fellows who are bound to mase their way in the world and we hope they reach the highest round of the ladder of success. Marvelous Work. This medicine is guaranteed to cure, and it will satisfy you. By Druggists. I Price 25c, 50c and 81.00. Our attention has been called to the fact that many children ranging in ages from five to fifteen years are again making a practise of playing upon the streets until a late hour at night. There is a city ordinance which provides a punishment for children found on the streets wihout parents, unless on an errand, after eight o’clock and for several years this ordinance was strictly enforced. Since the city hall was destroyed by fire ' however curfew is not sounded and the children are again taking advantage of same. An effort may be made to have the city council again provide for a curfew alarm.

Good spirits don’t all come from Kentucky. Their main source is the liver —and all the fine spirits ever made in the Blue Glass State could not remedy a bad liver or the hundred-and-one ill effects it produces. You can’t have good spirits and a bad liver at the same time. Your liver must be in fine condition if you would feel buoyaht, habpy &nd hopeful, bright of eye, light of step, vigorous and successful in your pursuits. You can put your liver in fine condition by using Green’s August Flower—the greatest of all medicines for the liver and stomach and a certain cure for dyspepsia or indigestion. It has been a favorite household remedy for over thirty-five years. August Flower will make your liver healty and active and thus insure vou a liberal supply of “good spirits.” Trial size 25c; regular bottles 75c. At all druggists.

THE GREAT SOUTHWEST. MANY SEEKING HOMES WHERE LANDS ARE CHEAP AND CLIMATE IS MILD. Low Rates for Homeseekers; and Colonists Twice a Month. Many farmers in the Northern and Eastern states are selling their high priced landsand locating in the Southwest —in Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Manv who have been unable to own their homes in the older country are buying land at the low prices prevailing in the new country — $5, 810, sls per acre and up. These lands are mostly cut-over timber lands, some of them possessing a deep rich soil producing corn, wheat, oats, clover, cotton, fruit and vegetables, Well improved farms are scattered throughout this country. Many places with small clearings and some improvements can be bought very cheap. Our descriptive literature gives a fairly good idea of this country. It tells about the soil, crops, climate, people, schools, churches, water and health. It contains maps showing locations of counties, towns, railwaysand streams, and gives names and addresses of real estate dealers in the towns. Reduced rates for homeseekers and colonists are in effect first and third Tuesdays of each month, byway of St. Louis, Cairo or Memphis and the Cotton Belt Route. Let us send you our literature and quote you rates. Address E. W. Laßeaume, Gen. Pass, and Ticket Agent, Cotton Belt Route, St. Louis. Mo.
