Jomes Rosbauin aged 48 years of age died Saturday at 12:30 at the home of Mrs. Martin on North Fifth street. Mr. Rosbam came here about two weeks ago to visit for a short time with Mrs. Martin and while here took very sick with lung trouble which he had suffered from for several years. John Booher and Harry Hagerman, Van Wert young men. spent Satudray night in a drunken carousal. Early Sunday morning they were walking along the Pennsylvania railway tracks in that town and were struck by a fast express. Both men were killed instantly. Unclamined letters are at the postoflice for Miss May Meyers, George A. Bunner . Mrs. E. Mary Brevegs, John Bell, Henry Edwards, j Miss Bertha Elrey, Charles Elzey. Wm. Z. Foar, Ina Hudson. Thomas O. Neill. Miss Mattie Thomas, J. Touday, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Marts, Mrs. Belle Smith, Miss Reekie Meyers. Giving a Japanese girl a present means you desire to marry her If she accepts the flower, the necklace or whatever you prefer, she embraces you as a future husband. It’s different in this country. When a man sends a women a $17,50 bonnet and she accepts it the transaction merely means; "Another sucker gone wrong.'' There is a new song going the rounds of the press and it runs as foollws: We don’t want to buy at your place, we don’t trade there any more; you’ll be sorry when you see us going in some other store. You can't sell us any stale goods, we have opened wide our eyes; we don’t want to trade a your store, because you do not advertise. Col. Dick Townsend arrived Saturday from New Orleans where he was attending to business while returning home he took the opportunity to stop off at St- Louis and take a peep at the fair which he states is grand and now in full swing. He also states that if any Decatur people were contemplating going soon, to when they arrived in St. Louis to take the Wabash Shuttle cars which would take them directly to the World Fair | gate. ■ Through courtesy to Mr. and Mrs. TLingerfield and Miss Sweitzer we wish to make a few remarks pertaining to their ability, that the readers of the Democrat may know something of their achievements as opticians. As we have observed and in fact paid particular atten- i tian to the many words ot praise j spoken of them by the leading newspapers of Ohio, and especially I by the newspapers in our adjoining | counties, which endorse them em-| phaticalys having but few equals in their knowledge of the eye. In I consideration of these flattering’ remarks relating to their phenome- ‘ nal ability. The Democrat has no • hesitancy in corroborating them i that all sufferers of defective eves I may know of these people and may qe benefited as thousands of others have testified. There correction of the eyes is bused on rentenoscopic and ophthalmic tests given by the aid of the dark room. Their costly outfit embraces the latest discoveries and improvements of professional apparatus for the correction of the most difficult cases, and a special feature of the examination is that it is free and performed by people who have had a whole life of study and experience, who are also highly spoken of in the optical journals as being eminent authority on errors of refractions. These opticians have a series of towns, ten in number, that they go to twice a year. They intend to include Decatur in their circuit and will visit our city every six months.

THE GREAT SOUTHWEST. MANY SEEKING HOMES HHERE LANDS ARE CHEAP AND CLIMATE IS MILD. Low Rates for Homeseekers and Colonists Twice a Month. Many farmers in the Northern and Eastern states are selling their high priced land sand locating in the Southwest —in Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Manv who have been unable to own their homes in the older country are buying land at the low prices prevailing in the new country—•Bs, >BIO, Sls’ per acre and up. These lands are mostly cut-over timber lands, some of them possessing a deep rich soil prod ucing corn, wheat, oats, clover, cotton, fruit and vegetables. Well improved farms are scattered throughout this country. Many places with small clearings and some improvements can be bought*very cheap. Our i descriptive literature gives a fairly good idea of this country. It tells about the soil, crops, climate, people, schools, churches, water and health. It contains maps showing locations of counties, towns, railways and streams, and gives names and addresses of real estate dealers in the towns. Reduced rates for homeseekers and colonists are in effect first and third Tuesdays of each month, byway of St. Louis, Cairo or Memphis and the Cotton Belt Route. Let us send you our literature and quote you rates. Address E. W. Laßeaume. Gen. Pass, and Ticket Agent, Cotton Belt Route, St. Louis, Mo.
