Those democrats who are accusing Judge Parker of having voted for Palmer and Buckner are doing that gentleman an injustice. He supported Bryan in 1896 and again in 1900 and is a true democrat.-—Columbia City Post. Hon. Samuel M. Ralston in an extended interiew, lines himself up for Judge Alton B. Parker for president. and in so doing gives some mighty good reasons why the democrats should select their standard bearer with calmness and wisdom. Mr. Ralston's interest is that of a democrat who desires to see his party progress and who has no personal or selfish motives to gratify __________ The election of every candidate on the city ticket is a matter of importance to the party. Do not be caught napping on any “hot air” issue, raided for the purpose of advancing the candidacy of the opposition. For instance they say Hairy Cordua would really do his duty if the mayor would let him. The fact is the mayor has no string on him at all, and if he admits the failure of doing his duty he alone is responsible. Do not allow these things to interfere with your suppert of the ticket Harry Cordua the marshal and candidate for re-election, is beginning his campaign by false and perhaps malicious accusations. He glibly tell the “dear people” that he would rejoice in performing his official duties were not his hands tied by orders from the mayor. This is a very poor excuse from a very poor marshal. The law specifies both the duties of a mayor and marshal. It is the duty of the, marshal to preserve peace and order and to arrest any and all violators of the law. It is the duty of the mayor to hear the evidence and declare the innocence or guilt of the ' accused. The mayor has no au-1 thoritv to cause the arrest of any individual, not any authority—more than an individual—of stopping any violations of law. This matter is wholly in the hands of the marshal and that officer should stand up and take his medicine, instead of trying to shoulder his neglect upon some one else.
The record of Mayor Coffee is one that entitles him to every democratic vote in the city. His administration has been above reproach, and free from any alliances with anything that did not “accord with the interests of a good city government, PRECINCT MEETINGS. Indiana oil went back three cents nearer the dollar mark this morn, ing. falling from fl. 17, which it had been bringing the past few weeks to $1.14, where it will doubtless remain for the next fortnight. The drop was not unexpected. Dutino the early part of last week oil men prophesied that the next fall in the oil market would occur last Satur day mornng. When the fall did come as expected it was considered only a matter of a few days unti another decline in the price wonk be registered and the decline came today. The local oil men are stil unable to explain the fall of thi Indiana product, bat as the fall K day was general, each of the cradi so quoted on the exchange tablet falling in price three cents. It j, believed the fall in the price o Indiana oil is not because of am defect in the petroleum.
