Jacob Heller was very much astonished Sunday morning about breakfast time when Mr. Harve Grow and Miss Minnie Schafer called and asked to be united in the' holy bonds pf matrimony. Messrs. E. C. Berie and Charles ' Caresdale, of Bluffton, were at this place last week writing insurance for the Illinois Life Insurance Co. The New Mission Church is hold1 ing a camp, meeting in the Shaup Grove, east of this place. Rev. Ramsayer is conducting the tpeethig. Sunday evening the lightning struck, a valuable basswood tree belonging to , Bprij. Moshberger, completely demolishing it root .and branch. The tree was located near the new barn. Messrs. James Kiner. Lawrance and I Harry Opliger returned home from Angola Friday, where they were attending school. They will return I again on Tuesday and resume their 1 studies the coming summer. ' Peter Hoffmhu and Edwin Heller boarded the morning train on Thursday for Salem. Oregon. Thav will visit the Bohefnia mining district of. that state and other important points of interest before returning. Their sta'y will' be. indefinite, probably one month.

During the electric storm Sunday i evening the lightning struck the rods on the barn of Robert Simerson. passing down the rods to where they were broken, there it jumped off, struck the barn, tearing off. several boards and doing other damage. Jud"e Erwin has given his ruling in the divorce law passed by the recent legislatimp which makes it necessray for the applicant for a decree to pay into court the sum of live dollars as a fee for the prosecuting attorney, who must appear or the defendant. The question is attracting attention all over the state, especially since a month ago when Judge Paulus of Marion, held the law unconstitutional. Friday the case of Sarah E. Largeant vs Joseph Largeant was brought up and Prosecutor Moran ordered to appear for the plaintiff. He made a motion that the sum of five dollars be paid in according to the new law and Judge Erwin sustained the motion, thus holding the law constitutional.

It is said that there js so-much salicylic acid in strawberries that medical authorities recommend them for rheumatism. What a plesant cure that would be but for the ' fact that the same fruit also produces a troublesome rash. However we would prefer the strawberries and rash to the rheumatism so will accept several gallons of rash -oh su T >s< rciption if any of our readers wish to pay that way. R?v. Wilken, Eugene Christen and a committee composed of T. C. (.' rbett, Henry Bremmerkamp, D. D. Coffee and Nick Miller left for a trip through ' western Ohio where they will investigate -the heating plants that are in use in many ot the large cities of that locality. The Catholllc church is to be supplied with the very best of apparatus and the trip will enable them to make a wise selection. Tljpse present were Messrs, and Mesdames C. A. Dugfa, C., C. Schafer, H.-R. Moltz. L. G. Eltingham, J. H. Heller and Mr. F. M. Schirmeyer. Jesse Niblick was the society helm Tues, night and directed very successfully an event in which he entertained about fifty of his lady and gentleman friends. The affair was very complete and the enjoyment was true to a shirt waist gathering. Progressive peanuts was the principal feature of the amusements and appropriate prizes were given to the players. Miss Midge Smith and Fred Patterson were the most successful in this contest and Charles Knapp and Miss Gertrude Bremerkamp were alloted the consolation prizes. After the end of festivities at the house, during which a fine course of refreshments were served, the guests assembled at th<BL’. Y. M. The animal got hold of a ■ bum h of stale pickles and proceeded to devour them, being the supjioesd cause of death. Tne cow was driven in from the pasture and suddenly keeled over, expiring with - in a few moments. The loss is a serious one for Mr. Gassinger.
