Lippincott’s Magazine for July contains an admirably clear account of the laying of an ocean cable, by Percie W. Hart, who writes from actual experience and with the lucidity of a trained author. The laying of the Pacific cables render this paper most timely. Lord Kitchener has been granted $250,000 and made a V’iscount for his services in bringing to a termination the war in South Africa. By a remarkable coincidence the grant was made on the fifth anniversary of a similar reward of $150,000 for distinguished services in Egypt. Ten years in bed. R. A. Gray, J. P. Oakdale, Ind., writes: “For ten years I was confined to my bed with disease of my kidneys. It was so severe that I could not move part of the time. There is little wonder that the layman has so little faith in the profession, “when doctors disa gree.” Was wasting away. The following letter from Robert R. Watts of Salem, Mo., is instructive: “I have been troubled with kidney disease for the last five years. I lost flesh and never felt well and doctored with leading physicians and tried all remedies suggested without relief. Finallv I tried Foley’s Kidney Cure and less than two bottles completely cured me and I am now sound and well. The next time she spanked a good deal harder and then stopped to let it soak in, and asktsl if she would make any more faces. "No,” sobbed the little one. "but I'd like to.'' And now that mother wonders where the benefit of that spanking has all gone. By the way, never spank a child on a full stomach. Always turn them over. Good Advice. The most miserable beings in the world are those suffering from dyspepsia and liver complaint. More than seventy-five per cent, of the people of the United States are afflicted with these two diseases and their effects, such as sour stomach, sick headache, habitual costiveness, palpation of the heart, heart-burn, waterbrash, gnawing and burning pains at the pit of the stomach, yellow skin, coated tongue and disagreeable taste in the mouth, coming up of food aftereating, low spirits, etc. Go to your druggist and get a bottle of August Flower for 75 cents. A story is told of two local topers who had been drinking heavily and slept together one night. One accused the other of having snakes, which he denied and asked, how do you know? The appellate court at Indianpalis do not seem to believe in practical jokes. A case for damages has been | appealed to them and they gave aver diet against the joker. A man who was pretty solid banged up against a slender man and knocked him over. On picking the man up it was found he was injured. He sued for damages| and got it. Corn plowing is beginning to get good and ripe, haymaking is at hand and in a week or two wheat harvest will be here. In this county everything seems to point to a plentiful yield. Corn is in an excellent condition since the recent rains and needs only some care to produce I a full . rop. Clover hay is very good. 1 thick ami tall. Timothy will probably not yield as much but the quality is first-class. Wheat and rye are fair, in some localities excellent. The complete novel of the July Lippincott’s Magazine is baptized for the season, “On the Road to Arcady.” The name makes visions of rustic loves and the tale realizes them. It is by Mabel Nelson Thurston, who knows the hearts of the people and speaks their sentiments. She has lieen to an Arcady of her own and brings back this report full of flowers and sunshine and quiet humor and wooing and finallv of winning. It ail happens neat Washington, and one of the most idyllic episodes is at Mount Vernon. The tale Itelongs to the vine-covered porch or the backwoods retreat, but it would harmonize as well with the tumbling surf. Caution! This is not a gentle won! but when you think how liable you are not to purchase for 75c the only remedy universally known and a remedy that has hail the largest sale of any medicine in the world since 1868 for the cure and treatment of consumption and throat and lung troubles without losing its great pop ularity all these years, you will be thankful we called your attention to Boschee’a German Syrup. There are so many ordinary cough remedies' made by druggists and others that are cheap and good for light colds perhaps, but for revere coughs, bronchitis, croup and especially for consumption, where there is difficult expectoration and coughing during the nights and mornings, there is nothing like German Syrup. Sold by all druggists in the civilized world. G. G.l Green, Woodbury, N. J. ts
