This town has a fnan a J kind of a boss, somewhat of t
and imagines he own%. a V ‘'G faßt . 1 horse, he comes to Linn l ' ,o ' e atu l ! calls on an apprentice, his first name i .is Henrv. his last it is Gentis; and savs I c6me as a man my honor to trace, I own a fast steed and I 11 run you a race, and now so certain as . ravens and swallows 1 have some 1 lucre, and I'll bet vou ten dollars savs Henrv. my sheekles are not very plenty but I'll cover vour ten and make it twenty: so the boss on hs heels did turn and in due tune showed lup in Berne. He sought out Lis man j and about he sped, exclaiming you know that 1 am no jester your first name is Fred and the other is Weclr ter. vou are all aware that I am no off man'. lam Alfred that they usually J call Coffmann, says he 1 am some- | what of a boss, and you are the owner of a noted fast horse, and you know to Linn Grove is a very short space, go i with me there and win me this race: i but Fred's profession is not to get i astride, so Windy 1 11 give you two _ dollars to ride. So M indy did ride as one of his kind, but our Bird throwed dirt made the Berne Myrtle | blind: this was Tuesday, then came, some fifteen or twenty ail bridled and saddled were the Berne gentry, we, vow the rival steed is no more than a plug, we will anchor her as easy as a Lake Michigan tug. The race was pulled off 'twas a very fine heat, but zip by jove Linn Grove had won. so | said the judges united as one. Berne is left behind was the voice of a score the distance in the rear was sixty feet ves more, with hands on their bread baskets Berne declared they were sore, should we live through this] scrape you will catch us no more. ] Ver Bum Sap swore Fred by his 1 borne in the stall. I have lost my plunkers. my rep and my gall; we | will return to our homes and be allj the wiseer and tone our stomachs with DeWitt's Early Risers. Moral. , Hereafter perchance you think you | have something fast, turn some other ■ direction and you will not say, alas! i go to Bluffton. Ft. Wayne or some 1 other alcove.
