The Geneva schools that now hold their sessions in various halls about town are doing very well under the very inconvenient circumstance*. Teacher's InslHute 1 The teachers institute of I nion and I R ot townships met in joint institute, 1 January. 1", in Inion township, ] district number 6. All the teachers ] were present, .exception of Messrs i Lower and Lewton of Root. Among the visiters were Superintendent Brandvberrr, the trustees of Union,! Root and Washington townships, the ■ school director and two members: of tbe township advisory board. The Institute was one of the most successful ever held in these townships. The opening exercises were concucted by Mary Miller in which Master Dale Moses gave an excellent recitation. Europe in the nineteenth century, was presented by Prof. E. S. Christen, followed bv a discussion of the subject by Etta’Mallonee. The work on Current Events was taken up by John Magley and Samuel Woodward. Re-
citations were then rendered by Harry Erwin and Fannie Dutcher, after! which the Institute adjourned, for dinner. After dinner the subject Sanitation and Decoration was presented by C. D. Spuller followed by the dis cussion by Mr. Kline in which the air f the room was tested and found to l<e almost pure. Quiz on the subject was conducted by Nettie Miller A paper on prose and poetry of Indiana was read by F. D. Mumma. and was discussed by Belle Barkley. This closed the regular work of the day, [ after which the following resolutions were offered. Whereas. The patrons, pupils and teacher of this district, have contribu ted troth their presence and of their sustenance for the grand success of this institute. Therefore be it resolved. that we, the teachers of Union and Root townships, in joint institute s assembltd. do most heartily tender | our sincere and heartfelt thanks for their true entertainment, and most excellent dinner. Owing to the grand suecess of the past institutes the
