The senate will continue to give its attention to the Hay-Pauneefote treaty ami the ship subsidy bill this week, taking up first one ami then the other as may suit the convenience of those who may wish to speak on the two measures. Washington, Dee. 10 The program in the house for the week contem plates the consideration and passagi of the legislative, executive and judicial appropriation bi,ll and the bill for the reduction of the war revenue taxes. Wednesday the exercises in connection with the centennial eele bration of the removal of tire seat of government to Washington will be held In the house. Chamberlain Makes Reply. London. Dec. 11.—In the house of commons yesterday in answer to a series Os accusations against Joseph Chamberlain, secretary of state for the col onies. charging that lie held an inter est in concerns competing for government contracts, the secretary characterized the attacks us monstrous and declared that ms relations Intend to take legal proceedings regarding the charges. Said lie: "It is my personal honor that is involved in this question, and 1 think it hard, after 25 years of life in the full light of parliament to have to stand up and explain that I am not a scandalous thief.” Arrested In Wyoming. Chicago. Dec. 11, Walter D. (Henn formerly cashier of the Traders Loan and Building association, who disappeared last summer with a charge of being over .$20,000 short In his ac counts hanging over him. was placed in the county jail yesterday, pending trial. Glenn, after leaving Chicago, 1 went to Rawlins. Wyo., where he, secured a position as clerk in a hotel, and it was while acting in that position that lie was arrested. Date of Roberts' Arrival. London. Dec. 10.—Lord Roberts is expected to arrive in London Jan. 5. He will be met by the Prince and Princess of Wales and will proceed immediately in triumphal progress to St. Paul's cathedral, where he will attend a special service of thanksgiving. Deadly Gas Expli sion. Evanston, Wyo.. Dee. 11.—In a gas explosion in the new railroad tunnel near Aspen, Wyo.. four men were killed, three seriously wounded and three slightly.
