Samuel Murray, of near LaFayette, Ind., left this city yesterday with a light heart and a bullet in his vest pocket. For sixteen years he had carried the bullet in his neck, where it found lodgment against the jugular vein. Two weeks ago Mr. Murray came to Fort Wayne, believing that he would soon join the army on the other side of the river of death, and last night he started for his home with a happy heart and a new lease of life. He survived one of the most successful operations in which the patient recovers instead of dying, as generally happens. The wound which necessitated the operation was inflicted in 1882, at Rushville, during a personal encounter with a burglar. Mr. Murray was first struck over the head with a club, then shot with a thirty-eight caliber pistol while attempting to get up. The bullet struck him under the left eye and passed thrugh the face downward, and to the left and lodged in his neck against the juglar vein. The shot also destroyed the sight of his left eve. The local doctors thought it too dangerous an operation to undertake to remove the bullet and the wound eventually healed over. Ho then visited Cincinnati, when he was advised not to submit to an operation as it would almost certain result in death. He returned home and the wound gave him no more trouble until about six months ago, when his neck commenced to swell and became very painful and his family physician warned him that his end was near at hand. Accompanied by his son, he came to this city two weeks ago '.oconsuit Dr. J. W. Younge, who informed him that an operation was the only means of saving bis life. To this Mr. Murray consented and Dr, Younge, assisted by his assistant. Dr. Smith, performed tho operation. In removing the bullet, the doctor laid the jugular vein bare,-and a slip of the knife to the extent of one-fourth of an imh woul i have proven fatal to Mr. Murray. Few-men wc.dd have survived the terrible wound he received sixteen years ago and he now bids fair to live many years. Hr. Murray is one of wealthiest and influential farmers in southeast Indiana. The above is taken from the Ft. Wayne Tribune. Telling the truth has been the underlying principle of Dr. Younge’s successful career. In his dealings with all his patients he has lived up to the letter and spirit of this motto. Animated with a sincere desire to relieve suffering and mitigate pain, he has won their confidence. Some months since we alluded to the remarkable cures of this eminent practitioner and as a result many of our readers were led to seek a cure when ail other hope was vain. He, after the close of tho war, spent two years in hospital practice in Europe, in Paris and Berlin, studying under the ablest specialists in Europe. Dr. Younge will be at the Burt House next Monday, January Ist, where he can be consulted by the sick and afflicted. The doctor has been visiting Decatur once every four weeks during the past ten years and has treated many of the best citizens of Adams county, all of whom speak very highly of him. By the doctor visiting his patients once every month it saves them the expense of railroad fare to Fort Wayne and return. A member of congress from a northern Indiana district, who shall be nameless, received some time ago a large and handsome pumpkin from one of his constituents. Wash the glasses clean and fill them with water to the neck the part which forms a cup to receive the bulb. Put a few pieces of charcoal in the water to help keep it sweet.
