Miss Fannie DeVilbiss left yesterday for Winona, Indiana, where she will ioin her mother in a several days outing at that very pleasant summer resort. Rev. E. L. Kellogg, an old Methodist minister and at present presiding elder in Michigan, died last week. He was known by many Methodists in this state. The Detroit excursion which is being manipulated by the Ladies Mite Society of this city will be run on Thursday, July 20. Wool buyers are hovering over northern Indiana and there is a suspicion that some of them are frauds. Erwin was at Pennville, Indiana, Tuesday and delivered a rousing patriotic address in honor of the Glorious Fourth. Dick has a well deserved reputation as an orator and we know he did justice to himself, especially at the dinner, which is said to have been a grand feast. As our team has twice defeated that organization in close games a good exhibition and a large crowd is looked for. Several fights oceured on the streets Tuesday evening after the celebration, although no one was seriously hurt in any of the battles. Miss Katherine Miesse left yesterday morning for Fort Wayne after a visit lasting three weeks with her father at the Miesse house. J. W. Place has again started dressing poultry and shipping to erstern markets, and is arranging to handle more this season than last. A street fair is being talked of in Decatur, to be held the first week in September. A twenty mile road race for bicyclists will be the feature for one day. A crowd of jolly young ladies, composed of a number of clerks from the various stores of the city will leave within a few days for a weeks’ outing at Lake Winona. Fun? Well don’t mention it. W. H. Warning, who has been manager of the Bee Hive store forthe past two years, has resigned that position and will take a similar one with Kern, Brittson & Co., in Decatur. — Bluffton Banner. T. R. Moore and family entertained a number of Ohio friends over Sunday. Among them were May Freidley, of Athica, Frances Stump and Verna Werden, Van Wert and Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Miller of Middlepoint. A young son of George Bolds who lives at Geneva fell from a fence Tuesday, alighting with full force on his head. The child was unconscious several hours and it is feared the fall caused concussion of the brain. The fourth of July was pretty generally celebrated here, nearly every business house being closed after twelve o’clock. Everybody seemed to enjoy themseves and a feeling of general satisfaction rests upon all concerned.

Last Friday’s Marion Leader said: A number of city officers of Decatur were here Wednesday afternoon looking at the water works plant, and the entire system of water mains. They are going to put in water meters and are after pointers as to the best methods. Those in the party were Mayor Beatty and Councilman W. H. Niblick and Willard Suttles. Henry Knapke, who has been tending bar for Charles Murray for some time has resigned his position. Henry has contracted with the firm who has been building the Studabaker-Allison block, and will learn the brick layers trade. He left Tuesday for Bluffton where the company have the contract for the brick work on two large buildings. The last week has at least lieen a busy one for one firm in the city. The J. W. Place Ice Cream and Soft Drink Company have been running day and night during the past ten days, and within that time have turned out more goods than at any previous time within the history of the concern, and even then were scarcely able to fill the orders. Jim is a hustler and deserves the success he has obtained in his business.

According to the Marion Leader of last Monday an organized gang of robbers are at work in this part of the state and are committing burglaries on every side of us. The police league, recently organized, is at work on all clues and it is thought the district will soon be rid of these pesky visitors. It is announced that all the independent telephone companies in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan have united and will establish a central exchange office in Chicago. Trunk lines will lie constructed from Chicago to the principal cities in the four states named, and rates will be much lower than those charged by the Bell people. A big fight is on. According to the fish law enacted by the last general assembly of Indianda, any one who so desires, is now at liberty to fish at any time or place he may desire, so long as nothing but a line and rod or sixty foot net is used. So get your tackle ready and as the fish have had a long hungry spell you can doubtlessly catch enough to supply yourself and neighbors the rest of the summer. A Fourth of July celebration was given at Preble Monday night and a Targe crowd was present to celebrate the approach of the great holiday. A concert by the Preble band, fire works, sack races and other amusements were on the program. A large, number of people from this city, including the bicycle club were present and all report a good time, such as is always had in that little city.
