They firmly believe in the theory of protecting home industry. The Findley base ball club, headed by Bud Fowler, the fastest colored ball player in the country, arrived this morning and will meet our boys this afternoon. They are leaguers, every one of them, and will give the Creams a hard chase. Duke Stoops of the Pike County Democrat, was circulating among friends here last week. Duke has recently improved his newspaper by the addition of new type and a power press which is is sufficient indication of his progress. The pupils of the St. Joseph Catholic schools are enjoying their famous annual picnic at Schurger’s grove, one mile west of the city, to-day. These events are known for the enjoyment they furnish, and today’s is probably no exception. The brick work on the StudabakerAllison block is about completed, enough being visible to proclaim the building a handsome structure and a credit to our prosperous little city and the gentlemen who are responsible for its construction. It is expected to be ready for occupancy by September, 1. The Detroit excursion which is being manipulated by the Ladies Mite Society of this city will be run on Thursday, July 20. The fare is SI.OO and $1.75 for the round trip, and will contain a day of pleasure and sightseeing well worth the time and money. The Bourbon News says there was a woman in Bourbon last week, claiming to be from Evansville, and with a baby in her arms she solicited alms from the citizens. It has subsequently deleloped that the baby was rubber and on entering a place of business she would squeeze the inanimate being and it would set forth a lusty yell.

Mrs. John Niblick entertained a number of guests at her home on Third street Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Erwin of Wheeling, West Virginia. About fifteen members of the F. & A. M. Lodge of this city drove to Willshire last evening and were pleasantly entertained. Third degree work was conferred. The Misses Meannie and Ella Shurger, have returned to their home at Delphos, while here they attended the Shurger and Rohr wedding, and were also guests of other friends. The date of the Detroit excursion to be run from this city has been changed from July 13 as announced last week to July 20. This will be the treat of the season. July 4th. Arrangements for a grand and glorious celebration of the Fourth of July in Decatur have been completed by the Decatur Cycle club. A number of attractions, enough to last all day have been secured and the boys will make it a great day, good music, bicycle races, balloon ascension, ball games, illuminated parade and other amusements are on the program and everybody should attend. The program, as arranged, is as follows: 10:00 a. m.—Ball game, Places Cream’s vs Richmond. 12: m.— Five miles handicap bicycle race, free for all. First prize, sls cash; second, $lO, cash; third, $5, cash. Time prize, (set M&W tires),slo. 1:30 p. m. One mile county race, free for all. Bicycle riders outside of Decatur. First prize, bicycle suit. $lO, second, trade at Fetzer’s $5; third, sweater, $4. 2:00 p. m. One-half mile boys’ race for boys under 16 years. First prize, suit of clothes, $8; second, bicycle shoes, $4; third, sweater, $2.50. 3:00 p. m. Ball game, Place’s Cream’s vs Richmond. 5:00 p. m— Grand balloon ascension.
