Called a Halt. The commissioners discovered t hat the iron work on the court house tower was not l>eing erected according to the plans and specifications governing the contract for same, and immediately called a halt. They met in special session Monday morning and caused the following record to be made: It appearing to the satisfaction of the board of commissioners, while in special session, pursuant to notice heretofore given by the auditor of -aid county according to law and properly entered of record, that the oods A Mann, now engaged in constructing tower on the court house of said county, are not constructing the same in accordance with the plans and specifications filed with said board, or in accordance with the contract heretofore entered into by the said Mann A Woods, in this that the steel work now being placed and which has already been placed on said tower above the brick work thereon. is not as provided for in said contract and plans and specifications. It is therefore ordered by the board while in special session as aforesaid, that the auditor cause to lie served on the said contractors. Woods & Mann, a notice notifying them to remove said steel work on the upper part of said tower aforesaid, and that they proceed at once to complete said tower in all things in accordance with said contract and plans and specifications, and to further notify said contractors to not proceed with the further construction of said upper part of said tower, except in the manner provided in said plans and specifications. It seems that the iron was not turned • out according to “Hoyle, that is the top ;of same came to too flat a surface, thereby not giving it the strength intended bv the specifications. The defect was detected and the above order shows that the board refused to accept it until made as intended. The , contractors offered several remedies in order to let the present iron work remain, but they all were refused. In ; placing new iron work for that already in position, it will occasion some little delav. but when completed it will Ite done in all things according to 1 agreement. A meeting of the official board of the Methodist church held last evening. it was decided that since a large 1 number of friends and citizens would be unable to attend the funeral services of Rev. E. T. Gregg, that memorial services should be held in this city Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church. Committees were also appointed to ascertain the number who will attend the services at Kokomo and to secure floral emblems.
