Manley of Marion, was in the city Monday, being called in counsel in some important court matters. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Schirmeyer were at Van Wert last evening, where they attended an entertainment given by the Choral Union of that place. All accounts due and owing the firm of Schulte. At a high school meeting yesterday morning Fred Patterson was chosen to serve as president of the Eastern Indiana Oratorical Association during the coming year. At the recent meeting of the association held at Portland, this city was allowed that office, and the class have no doubt made an excellent selection.

H. Kuebler, Nick Miller and E. X. Ehinger were among the Decaturites who took in the excursion to Cincinnati last Sunday. William Anshute of Van Wert, was the guest of Mayor Beatty last Tuesday. He made the trip on his bicycle, returning home in the evening. ’ Ason of Frederick Thieme was quite badly hurt last Thursday by a maddened hog which attacked him, biting him on the legs and arms, inflicting quite severe bruises. Miss Glen Pellman and Mr. Wine Griffith, two prominent young people of Portland were quietly married at Dunkirk last Sunday. Rev. G. B. Work performed the ceremony. Just who will play here is not decided, but the visiting team will be a strong one. The woman who possesses the longest head of hair in the world is said to be Mercedes Lopez, a Mexican. Her height is five feet, and when she stands erect her hair trails on the ground four feet eight inches. The hair is so thick that she can completely hide herself in it. She has cut it very frequently, as it grows so quickly, enabling her to sell large tresses to hair dealers every month. She is the wife of a poor sheep herder. They have an improvement on our elevator in Paris. It is a moving stair-case. You put your hand on a rail, and find yourself going up, up without the least unpleasant feeling. On the contrary, the motion is said to be exhiliarating, and compared to the effect produced by the moving stairway, the elevator is crude indeed. Now a London store has begun the construction of one which has a carrying capacity of three thousand pounds.
Craig Miller returned to this city Monday afternoon from Savannah, Georgia. He was a member of company B, 160th Indiana, and was one of the company’s best soldiers, so it is said. Since the muster out he has been doing some work at Savannah. He will remain several days looking up old friends. About fifteen members of the Decatur Cycling Club, with Dick Christen as captain, made a run to Bluffton last Sunday and took dinner with Dell Locke at the Bliss. They returned during the afternoon and report a fine trip and an excellent dinner. The next trip by the club will probably be to Montpelier or Celina.
