He reports the health of his wife slightly improved. Riesen & Sites will be the new firm that wdl operate a meat market in the old tin shop of D. S. Wittwer, on West Main street, * Bob Michant received a fine lot of flower bulbs that he offers at very liberal prices, He intends to go to Michigan about the 15th and deliver his trees about the 20th of the month. Ehrhart & Runyon opened up their place of business formerly the Campbell & Ervin place to the' public Monday. Both parties are young men and hustlers and we bespeak for them success, John Elley died last Thursday at his home east of town. Funeral services took place Saturday afternoon at the Reforme church. August 10, 1824. and died in Linn Grove, Ind., April 7, 1899, age seventy-four months and twenty-seven days. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Defenseless Men nonite church by Rev. Wm. Eglev of Berne, and the body laid to rest in the adjacent cemetery. Mr. Herrmann has resided here the past thirty-seven years. John Dilts, P. B. Stoltz and son of Bryant, were here Tuesday of last week to inspect our school building, the following day the party in company with our townsman, Fred Hoffmann went to Poneto and Keystone to view the plans of school buildings at those places. Mr. Stoltz i arranging to build a four room house at Brvant which will be a modern structure. Mr. Stoltz was highly pleased with his investigating trip. Miscelaneous Business. t FORT WAYNE PRESBYTERY. Arrangements Made for a Pleasant Meeting Here April 17-18. As the Ft. Wayne Presbytery meets at Decatur on Monday evening. April I 17 it will be interesting to our many readers to give a short sketch of its I work and magnitude. The 1 resbyterian church is representative in form -of government, being divided into four separate bodies, Ist, the General Assemblv, which meets annually: 2nd. State Svnod. which meets annually;
3rd Presbvterv. which meets semiannuallv and may be called in special session;’ 4 th. the church session, winch meets upon call of its moderator. Ihe church session is the ruling body of each separate church and their action is subject to review by the Presbytery. Appeals mav be taken from the session to Presbvterv. from Presbytery to Svnod and‘from Synod to the General’Assemblv. The Synod of Indiana is made up of eight Presbyteries. Each church is entitled to two delegates in meetings of Presyterys, one pastor and one elder, and to like representation in meetings of Synods, while each Presbytery is entitled to two delegates in the General Assembly. one pastor and one elder. Fort Wayne Presbvterv includes eleven counties, to wit: Elkhart, Lagrange, Stuben, DeKalb. Noble, Kosciousko, Whitlev. Allen, Adams, Wells and * Huntington, in which district there r are twentv-eight church organizations with a membership of 4880. Presbytery will be constituted on Monday , evening.
