• Pleasant Hills. Ice harvest is in full blast. Quite a number are on the sick list. A portion of the new sidewalks have already been laid. Miss Celia Stetler Sundayed at Decatur with friends. Born, to Al Roebuck and wife a girl, January 29th. France & Yager have put up a large amount of ice. Skating seems to l>e the order of the day with our young people. Miss Emma Ehresman of Decatur, visited her parents here last week. Several of our young men attended church at Pleasant Valley Sunday evening. Dr. J. W. Vizard and our genial merchant, C. W. Yager, were business callers at Decatur last Tuesday. Mrs. John Slusser of near Sidney, Ohio, is visiting her parents, W illiam Armstrong and wife of this village. A series of meetings will convene next Sunday evening at the U. B. church, conducted by Rev. Jackson. Horrible agony is caused by piles burns and skin diseases. That the horrors of St. Valentine’s Day are near at hand, is plainly shown by the awful pictures displayed in some of our store windows. The Hale elevator is very busy these days shelling and handling the large amount of corn that is hauled to this market from far and near. The G. R. & I. R. R. company have established a new shipping yard along the old side track formerly used by the hoop works, for the accommodation of our timber dealers who demanded more room.
Belle Boyd, the female rebel spy J gave an illustrated lecture under the i auspices of the local M. R. C. at the opera house. Tuesday evening of this week. The mangled retains of Gib Goodwin. the victim of the nitro glycerine explosion near Bryant one day last week, were shipped to his old homem New York state last Thursday for in terment. The bereaved wife accompanied them to their last resting place. It was with feelings of sadness that our G. A. R. members received the news Monday of the death of their distinguished comrade and command-er-in-chief, Col. Jas. A. Sexton, at Washington. D. C. Thus slowly but surely are the defenders of “Old Glory" passing to their final reward. Mrs. Barber, wife of Chas. Barber of this place, died at the Fort Mayne hospital last Saturday from the effects of a surgical operation" for the removal of a tumor. The remains were brought here Monday by train and buried in the Pyle cemetery Tuesday. She was aged forty-two years, and leaves a husband, two daughters and a son to mourn their loss.
