A Sicilian tribunal has just sentenced a noted forger to imprisoment for 189 years. Divine Healer Schrader, who was in Indiana last summer, tried to ride from Chicago to St. Louie on his bicycle and almost froze to death. Some farmer near Bloomington, 111., found him in a stack of corn and took him to the house and he now claims it was his own sanctity that brought the men to his aid. Muncie dispatches say: Muncie pork eaters had their nerves shocked the other day with the announcement that an enterprising stock raiser has for two years past been fattenming hundreds of porkers on the carcasses of dead horses collected in Muncie and vicinity, with no regard as to what disease caused the horse’s death. Policeman Pat Hannon, of Summitvillle, charged with manslaughter,, growing out of the cremation of Fred Barton, of Anderson, while a prisoner in the Summitville calaboose, has been acquitted, the evidence showing that he did his duty in making his arrest, and that he was not responsible for the fire which consumed the building and Mr. Barton. Two more cases of smallpox have developed in the ranks of the 161st Indiana Volunteers who are now at Havana. The infected men have been taken away from the others and every care is lieing taken to avoid anything like an epidemic of the disease. Col. Durbin and his men are not alarmed over the disease and think it will be but a short time until it will be completely stamped out. A number of witnesses were examined, the defendants’ pleas of “ot guilty” entered, after which they were bound over to await the action of the federal grand jury which j meets at Indianapolis next May.
