It will consist of readings from the most popular literature by Earl B. Xewton, and whistling solos by "Indiana s Child Whistler." Miss Bessie Hunter. This promises to be a rare treat. Joint Township Institute. The institute which was held in district Xo. 6, Preble township Dec. 3, was highly commended by all present. The spirit which it involved showed that both the Kirkland and Preble township teachers are stand ing along the front rank in the educational line. Institute was called to order by Trustee Fruchte at 9:30 o'clock a. m. J. F. Fruchte conducted the opening exercises which consisted of singing "America" by the institute, reading a chapter from the Bible, declamations and repeating of the Load's Prayer by all present. Supt. Brandyberry was elected chairman for the day. Before they began witli their day’s work Prof. Brandyberry made a very interesting talk to teachers and scholars about the line of education. The roll was called by the secretary, to which all the teachers responded with a quotation from W hittier and some of his writings. The following program was then rendered: Plato s Republic. Henry Lankenau; discussion by institute., Recitation. "Destination of America.,’ W . Jackson. Music. Mr. Steele. Social elements. Miss t'ook. Institute then led in a general discussion. 'I he institute then adjourned for dinner. At one o'clock p. m. the institute was 1 called to order by Supt. Braudyberry. Music. Mr. Steele: recitation. “Purest Pearl." Miss Moldy: arithmetic, Miss Jackson; discussion by institute. School management by Mr. W eldy; discussion by Mr. Brown. Assignment of duties. Talks by superintendent. trustees, teachers and others, all rejoicing of the well spent day and over the good points that were brought out.
