This will in a short time necessitate a special appro priation by congress. The first man to be awarded a pensi ii for injuries sustained in the late war was Jessie T. Gates, of the second U. S. artillery, who lost part of his upper lip in the West India campaign. Porter J. White, as Mephisto, with an excellent ccmpany presented Goethe’s Masterpiece “Faust” at the i Bosse opera house last evening. The i company was here last year and con sequently the home was packed last . evening when the curtain went up. Mr. White is a favorite here as he is ( every where. He is an excellent actor < and in the character of “Mephisto" is outclassed by no one. The entertainment given at the Baptist church last Friday ('veiling was anjoiig the best ever seen here The ptogram consisted of music and recitations by such artists as the Misses Schaffer, Schrock, Nib i lick, Hosier and Edwards and was < highly interesting throughout. Baptist church revival meetings conducted by Rev. G. W. Pearce are in progress and will be continued on Sunday next, and until further notice. A lady and gentleman's bowling club has been organized in this city and now-, look out for all previous records to be torn to atoms. The chib is composed of twelve couple, and will meet at Moore’s club room on Friday evening of each week. They will hold their first meeting next week. The club will be composed of two teams and the battles between them will doubtlessly be fast and furious. The new bowling alley in the Weber building, corner Monroe and third streets will open today. Our citizens should indeed feel proud that Mr. Moore has located in Decatur. He has spared neither time nor money in his endovors to make the alley a first class place of amusement and he deserves your patronage. The game is a clean, fascinating and harmless one and is played by the best people the W’orld over.
