W. B. Westlake, the editor of the Marion Leader, has just fallen heir to §2OO,(XX), the same being left him by a woman in Winnipeg. The news no doubt comes as a great surprise to Mr. Westlake and his friends. That gentleman is now traveling in the west with the national editorial excursion. It is said the bequest is left him because of kindness once shown by the lady’s son, who was also a newspaper man. The Knights of the Garter are forty-eight in number, of whom some ten are crowned heads. There are twenty Knights of the Thistle and twenty-seven Knights of St. Patrick. Each order has a distinct emblem. The color of the Garter ribbon is of the shade known as garter blue, green is the color of the ribbon of the Order of the Thistle, while the color of the the ribbon of the Order of St. Patrick is sky blue. Before Santiago Chaplain Brown of Arizona was seen to seize the carbine of a w ounded trooper as the fight began to grow- fierce and w-ork his wav to the front of the fighting line. Colonel Roosevelt remonstrated. "According to the articles of war, chaplain,” he said “you are not allowed to handle firearms.” “D— -the articles of war!” came the quick response. The crop is nowbeing harvested and a small army of , boysand men are employed in pulling, topping, crating and hauling the odoriferous vegetable. The onions as a rule are not so large as last year, but the yield per acre is good many patches making from 600 to 800 bushels per acre.
