A woman with a bright eye, clear complexion, mantling color in the cheeks and buoyant elastic step and manner has a natural attractiveness that no artificial agency can counterfeit. A woman who is afflicted w’ith the mortifying misfortune of a dull, sallow, pimply complexion or that listless movement and attitude which provokes only disgust and revulsion in the opposite sex, ought to avail herself of the purifying, invigorating power of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery, which makes a strong, healthy stomach and digestive organism ; purifies the blood and imparts a natural stimulus to the excretory functions ; insures healthy weight, clear skin, bright eyes and the animated manner and bearing of perfect health. A lady living in West Virginia. Miss Anna Callow, of Kyger, Roane Co., writes: "It is with pleasure I write vou after using a few bottles of Dr. Pierce’s ’Favorite Prescription’ and Golden Medical Discovery.’ and I think them valuable medicines for female troubles and weaknesses. I could hardly go about my work I had such inwant weakness and constant miserv in the womo It worried me so that I would give out in walking a short distance. I had a bad cough and my lungs hurt me all the time. I got very thin, my complexion was bad, and my eves would get so heavy in the evening thev seethed stiff in the lids. I could hardly move them Many persons were alarmed about me. I looked so bad and had such a cough . they were afraid I would go into consumption. I felt so badlv every’ day that I had no life about me. I used’only five bottles in all. I shall ever speak in praise of vour grand medicines. They are blessings to suffering females.” Another good thing to have in the house is a vial of Dr Pierce’s Pleasant Pellets. They cure biliousness and constipation and never gripe.

There is a great waste of water by most persons now using water from I our city water plant, by consumers i using water for sprinkling two and sometimes three times a day, which | waste should not occur, for the reason that it is very expensive, by reason of the strain upon the pumping machinery at the station, causing the pump to"be kept running from twelve to fifteen hours daily. All consumers of water are requested to assist the officials of the city in cutting off this useless waste of water, by leakage from hydrants or any other improper use of water privilege. 2t H. B. PEOPLE OF THE DAY.’ Paul Dana, who succeeds his father, rhe late Charles A. Dana, as editor in chief of the New York Sun. has been for many years the right hand man of • the great editor and understands better I Vr' A * / W/ PAUL DANA. than any one else in the office the methods and policy which have made the paper great. He is a scholarly, studious man who has not yet reached 40 He is soft spoken and mild mannered, but is fully as aggressive as his distinguished father He is not merely a chip of the ' old block. He has a personality of his own. He is a slashing writer, and many of the good things which of late years have appeared on the editorial page of The Sun and have been attributed to the elder Dana have been from his pen He has been in charge of the paper for months at a time when his father was making trips abroad or enjoying well earned ease on his island home in Long l Island sound. About the only occasion I on which Paul Dana has been at all | prominent was when he was park commissioner for New York city in 1894 j He is married and lives on Fifth avenue Sir Edwin Arnold. No one who has read "The Light of Asia” was greatly surprised to learn ■ that its author, Sir Edwin Arnold, the j famous poet, has married a Japanese lady. True, it was a somewhat uncon- I ventional thing for a knighted Englishman who had reached the mature age of 1 65 to do, but Sir Edwin has often ig- | nored the conventions of European civilization. He has, too, bis long residence in Japan, freely f xpressed his admiration for everything Japanese, from Japanese art to Japanese women, and it is shrewdly suspected that he ■ has embraced Buddhism, that system of combined philosophy and religion A j - w '"r . wte SIP.
