On Thursday, a few minutes afttr school had been taken up in the afternoon, our people were horrified bv an alarm of fire which proved to be our graded school building. On , nes reaching the place the touching scene met the view, on the school house grounds could be seen the inma'es of all the rooms panic stricken seeking comfort only by audible weeping in which the lar«e girls led the orchestra, while the school books and wraps were scattered promisciously around. The fire started in soma combustible matter placed against the register in the upper east room used as a lodge room bv the Patriots of America, and was extinguished before much damage was done. The arrest of Amos Herrmann last week resulted in mysteries for years unsolved. A search of his father's premises in which be lives was for the time fruitless, in the meantime he whs put under a bond of S2OO to appear before a justice’s court on Friday and a thorough search made of his farm from which he had recently moved at this point. Amos left for the woods The discoveries here made proved that the place was methodically arranged for the nefarious business. In an old stable filled with hay was found a cave or room Bxl2 feet bv about 7 feet deep, neatly cut out with a hay knife, the only entrance thereto being from be neath. this contained s'olen goods and also made winter quarters for his pals and place of refuge. The granary was well arranged for the concealment of wheat, clover seed and other article* of value. By displacing a few bushels of oats a spout was exposed where valuable cereals was turned in and received in apartments beneath, this done the oats was raked over the receptacle when an oats bin apparently containing several hundred bushels was in view, when in reality there were only a few bush »ls The place was also arranged with hidden drawers filled with stolen goods vVhile these discoveries were being made others were seeking for Amos. Shocks of corn were probed in a distan' field 'or his person, instead of which a wooden box was found containing the greater port of the clothing purlo'ned when the Lewis Reynolds residence was burglarized Some of Mr. R’s loss was previously found in the dwelling on the farm. Searching the woods was next in order. Here the capture of Albert Musser was th»' unlocked for re ward. Albert claimed his hiding there dated back some fivemotnba Diligent search for Herrmann was continued night and dav. when on Thursday night a party, eight in number, headed bv Clayton Shepherd. Wm. Anderson and Lewis Gero explored the premises of Samuel Neuenschw<nder northeast of Vera Cruz, in whose barn whs found another vault under cov> r of hay which was unfinished and which stimulated further search. A large amount of loose bty near by being the contents of the cave, this they soon removed. amid shouts ”we have got him ’’Amos was once more in the bands of the officers. The capture being the second one for the party during this trip. Adam Musser having been captured about one hour previous at the residence of Abraham Bibrrstein, sr.. of French township. The prisoners when in Cowan’s court waived trial and were sent to the county bastile, as was i Albeit Musser a few days before. In
