OKLAHOMA BANBITS. f?«»ck Inland Passenger Train Held Up In Indian Territory. El Reno, 0. T., Oct. 2.—Bandits robbed the southbound Rock Island passenger train and all its passengers yesterday in broad daylight at siding No. 1, about, five miles south of Minco, in the Indian Territory. The railroad and express officials have feared a hold-np in that section for several weeks and armed guards have been put aboard all night trains at El Reno and carried through to Chickasaw. It had not been thought that the outlaws were bold enough to attack a train in mid-day. The trainmen were completely surprised and they were not prepared to offer any resistance when five masked men came upon them at the lonely siding. Section men were compelled by the bandits to flag the train. As soon as the train came to a standstill five masked men jumped aboard and under the pressure of Winchesters and uglv looking revolvers compelled ail on board to alight and line up on the prairie. Three of the robbers kept their guns trained on the passengers and trainmen, while the other two searched them for money and valuables, getting about S3OO in cash. Then they turned their attention to the mails, which were ouicklv rifled, but when they attempted to dynamite the express company safe, it resisted all the force and ingenuity of the robbers. Having taken possession of everything possible, they mounted their horses and rode away. A posse is in pursuit. YELLOW FEVER. Prospects Brightening at New Orleans. Other Pointe. NEW Orleans. Oct. TOOK THE INITIATIVE QUEEN REGENT OF SPAIN FORCED AZCARRAGA’S RESIGNATION. Sugusta Will Brook No Interference by the United States—Final JEstliimte on the Wheat Crop—Hunter Goes to Guatemala—Richer Than Klondike. Madrid, Oet. s.—The queen regent took a strong initiative during the cabinet crisis and profoundly surprised General Azcarraga by leaving him no alternative but resignation. She frankly expressed her disapproval of the conservative administration, especially in its treatment of the anarchist prisoners at Fortress Montjuich. She says she had allowed Senor Canovas to remain in office in the hope that he would modify the rigor of his impressive policy in Cuba. She waited patiently for two months after the death of Senor Canovas in the hope that the new government would correct these evils and then took it upon herself to consult General Campos, Senor Silvela and others as the best means of pacifying Cuba and thus steal a march on American diplomacy. All the statesmen whom she consulted I advised a liberal cabinet as the best means of attaining the queen’s wishes. , She then thanked General Azcarraga for bis splendid services as minister of war and intimated her intention to appoint Senor Sagasta as president of the council. No Foreign Influence. New York, Oct. 4.—A dispatch from Madrid says: A c rrespondent called yesterday on Premier Sagasta, who said in response to queries: “You ask me if the liberal party would assent to mediation by the United States with a view to hastening the pacification of Cuba and inducing the rebels in arms and exile to accept autonomy. “Why should we need mediation when our intentions—long and often expressed by the Liberal party—aim at realizing all that America could suggest? “No Spanish party, certainly not the Liberals, could assent to foreign interference in our domestic affairs or with our colonies. No government could hope to induce the nation to accept such interference.” WHEAT CROP. Final Estimate Based on Actual Threshlug Returns. Chicago, Oct. 4.—The Orange Judd Farmer, in its final estimate of the year’s wheat crop, says that figures based on actual threshing returns indicate a total yield of 589,000,000 bushels of which 373,630,000 bushels is winter and 315,470,000 bushels spring wheat. With the exception of Illinois and Missouri, the winter wheat yield rep resents the full capacity of the soil. The spring wheat yield in Minnesota and the Dakotas has proven a disappointment, the aggregate being only 129,000,000 bushels. The shortage there is in a measure counterbalanced by the good yield in Nebraska, Oregon and Washington. RICHER THAN KLONDIKE. Ore at Nogales, N. M., Runs From • 1,000 to 960,000 Per Ton. Roswell, N. M., Oct. 5. —A syndicate of capitalists headed by ex-Governor Barney Gibbs of Texas has had an expert for the past week at Nogales investigating the mines there with a view of investing in them. Large quantities of ore have been found that runs in gold from SI,OOO to $60,000 per ton. The “American” has ore enough in sight to keep it running for six months and is only down 150 feet. There are numerous’ other new mines that are promising as the “American.” Public Debt Statement. Washington, Oct. 2.—The monthly treasury statement shows that the close of business Sept. 30, 1897, the public debt, less cash in the treasury, was $1 ,- 012,122,713, and increase since Aug. 30 of $3,787,592. This increase is accounted for by a corresponding decrease in amount of cash on hand. The debt is recaptulated as follows: Interest bearing debt, $847,365,540; debt on which interest has ceased since maturity, sl,834,570; debt bearing no interest, $378,- | 615,390. Total, $1,227,315,500. MANY THINK! I when the Creator said to woman, | “In sorrow shalt thou bring forth I children,” that a curse was pronounced against the human race, but the joy felt by every Mother when she first presses to her heart her babe, proves the contrary. Warm American Shipowners. Washington, Oct. I.—The United | States consul at Guaedaloupe, W. 1., sends to the state department a note of warning for the benefit of American shipping interests. He says that the master of the schooner, Charles J.
