MONROE School commenced al district No. 2 last Monday, with Mica Ella Rayas teacher. H. C. Andrews is on the sick list. Miss Carrie Scherer left Sunday for Omaha. Nebraska, where she will teach in one of the schools at that place. Ed Smith will leave tor Lafayette in a short time to resume his studies at the university. The many friends of Paul Baumgartner will be glad to hear that he will be our future assistant county treasurer Messrs. The Geneva schools commenced business last Monday morning with an unusually full attendance under the supervision of Prof. Lung. J. W. Deitsch and family drove over to Rockford. Ohio, Saturday, and were the guests of Dr. Cordier over Sunday. Geo. Crim, our station agent, who ! has been sink the past week is able to i be out again. Deitsch has sold his interest in the drug business to Ed Walsh, and the firm now is Porter & Walsh, with the ever reliable Fred Deitsch, as head clerk. The Buckeye pipe line gang of work men were summoned to Alexandria by Supt. Johnny O’Day last Saturday, where they will work for an indefinite period. John Blocher, a pioneer citizen of Ceylon, died last Sunday morning, after a lingering illness with typhoid fever of two months duration. Funeral services were held at the M E church. Geneva, at two o’clock p. m. Tuesday, Sept. 7.1897, after which the remains were interred in the Pyle cemetery The funeral was conducted under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which order the deceased was a prominent member Mr. Blocher was about fifty years of age and leaves a widow and seven children, five sons, John, Harvey, G*orge, Matthew and Otto, two daughters. Mrs. Dr. Mattox and Katie, to mourn his loss.

Fred Hoffman and Joe Liddy were at Geneva, Monday. Some hadeions who consult not the life after death, stole and hauled away eighty bushels of wheat from the Daniel Miller homestead, forty bushels belonging to Levi D. Miller, the balance to Albert Lindsey. Levi says the theives were more familiar with the place than he, as be would not undertake to draw ekhty bushels over the route with one team. They were traced through Berne.

Last Friday while Albert Steiner was out hunting, Ms gun was accidentally discharged while climbing a fence, the load passing through his hand and the side of his head. He was taken to Geneva and the hand dressed and a part of the shot taken out of his face. He is doing well and will soon be able to return home if blood poison does not set in. Doctor Brayton was the attending physician. Several of our people are attending commissioner’s court at Decatur this week. Rev. Gillespie will be at Elm Grove i next Saturday and over Sunday. J. T. Burley had some of his teeth extracted while at Decatur last i Wednesday. It is a little too dry for the farmers to do their seeding. A good rain [ would be a welcome visitor. Yeakle & Bryan are again hulling | clover. When their new machine. was destroyed by fire they ordered ! another one the same day. Ditching will be in order as soon as the farmers get their papers from the auditor. Another test well will be drilled here. The rig is on the ground and I drilling will begin the last of this week. Earle gave an excellent lecture entitled, “A bird’s eye view of the life of Christ,” at Concord, last Monday evening, which was illus- j trated by charts. Gus took his position as | principal in the Geneva schools on Monday. Last Wednesday evening, at the ■ home of the bride occurred the marriage of Hattie Magley to C. D. Lewton. After the ceremony being performed the new’ly married couple sat down to a table full of dainties. All the guests having eaten a hearty supper they spent the evening in a jolly way.
