Perkinsville. Ind., Aug. 9.—J. C. Applegate, a farmer near here has made an important discovery and one that clears up a mystery. During the pioneer days of the state Indians had a large camping ground near here and used to sell large quantities of lead ore to the merchants of the state. Where they got the ore was a mystery, as no mines were known to exist in the west. While cleaning out an old hole in the woods on his farm Saturday for the pur- . pose of changing it into a stock well, ' Mr. Applegate discovered a vein of rich lead ore 30 feet underground. This on- | doubtedly explains where the Indians got their ore as the ground was found : tunnelled under some distance. PISTOLS IN CHURCH. JPreaoher Shoots at a GMig of Bowdlee and Kill* a Child. He scattered the roughs, but one bullet passed through the abdomen of the 3-year-old daughter cf John Standiford, who was sleeping on one of the seats. The little girl is dying. In the excitement Walstein made his escape. SICK AND IMPOVERISHED. XV. J. Craig, Once Owner of the Indianapoiis Sentinel In Soldleas’ Hume. Marion, Ind., Aug. 10. —W. J.
