Terveer returned from their visit at Lafayette, last Tuesday. Henry and Anna Colchin are in the south with a view of improving their health. Miss Vern Burnett of Ossian, was the guest of Bev. Hart the fore part of the week. Miss Anna Madden of Lancaster, Ohio, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. F. Horton. Rev. Healy of Albion, Michigan, occupied the pulpit at the Presbyterian church last Sunday. Mrs. Carlisle of Cincinnati, will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs. George Flanders, tor a few weeks. Mrs. A. C. Maken of Van Wert, visited her brother, Wilda Watts, and other relatives here last week. The Misses Effie, Fanny and Grayce Battenberg returned to school work at Angola last Monday. Ed Beeler who ha-< been at Huntington receiving treatment for his eyes, has returned home somewhat improved. Frank Barthel who has been in the St. Joseph hospital at Fort Wayne, is expected at home today fully recovered. The only thing to breark the stillness of the commencement proceedings was an occasional outburst of the jury in an adjoining room. Fred France of Huntington, attended the Commencement exercises at the court hou-e last Fri day evening, and wlhile in the city took occasion to spring a few “new ones.” Mrs. Sally Ramey and daughter Ruth, of Portland, attended graduating exercises here last Friday Right and remained over Sunday as guests ot R. Panish desire us. to return their heartfelt thanks for the kindness and sym-. pathies extended them during their bereavement in the death of their son Don. An infant child of Frank Gast the cigar manufacturer, died last Thursday morning after a short illness and was buried Friday afternoon. Interment at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Mrs. Jeff Bryson, Mrs. J. Q. Neptune, Mrs. J. W. Vail and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Dugan are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Smith and family during the Richmond encampment. Bicycle riders have been notified that they will not be allowed to ride faster than six miles an hour in the corporate limits. This puts an end to scorching, and lessens the danger of pedestrians being killed. Isaac Smith of St. Marys township, had'his buggy top cut to pieces and a set of harness stolen last Thursday evening, by parties who are too mean to live. Such acts as these, deserve the severest penalty of the law. The contract for building the new brick street will be let next Tuesday evening and the bidding promises to be spirited. Let the city council insert a clause in the contract compelling the contractors to employ home labor and thus keep the money at home. The fire boys are receiving plenty of encouragement from neighboring cities in regard to the firemen’s tournament to be held in this city. Enough promises to be present have been received to make the affair a howling success, and all that now remains to be done, is to receive financial encouragement from our citizens. -

Prof. AV, Floyd Brittson, the newly elected superintendent of city schools was an attendant at the commencement exercises Friday night. He returned to Bloomington to resume his studies on Monday. As usual tramps are supposed to be the guilty parties and escaped. Abolish the tramp nuisance, officers. We received last week a copy of the Giles County (Tennessee Record, Ottis G. Rayn’s. paper. It is a seven column quarto, containing an unusual amount of advertising and news. It is prosperous appearing and bears evidence of being up to date and all right. : — New circuit court cases filed this week are Lunnetta Drake vs Henry Schoenstedt, complaint for injunction. A. D. Moffett and wife th is week moved away from the city. They will probably locate in Indianapolis, although at present they will visit relatives in Spencer and southern counties,. They have lived here for some four years, and leave 4 behind them many intimate and well wishing friends. The Democrat was misinformed as to Fisher & Fiysinger having a contract to furnish SDO head of horses for the German government. Mr. Fisher,,senior member of the firm, informs us that such is not the case. While tie y have furnished a few horses to the government they have no contract. The circuit court has granted a divorce to Phillip Meis from Melrose Meis, the plaintiff it the suit paying all costs of the ease. Ola Brown vs Greer F Gemmell, for seduction, the plaint iff was hwarded damages in the sum of $3,000. State vs William Brown and James Bixler, fined $1 and imprisoned in the county qne day. Surveyor W. E. Fulk has been a mighty sick man for a week past, but is now recovering, much to the pleasure of Ips friends Some heart trouble is the rukery at the bottom of the trouble. It looked for a time as though Adams county would be without a suiveyor, although he is somewhat improved at this writing. It will be some ztime before he will be able to resume his official duties.
