Payne, formerly pastor of the Evangelical church at Edgerton, Ohio, has been given , the Payne circuit and moved his family to this city. Mr. and Mrs. M. V. B. Archbold attended commencement exercises at Markle last Friday, in which a nephew was a distinguished participant. I. J. The Decatur City Band came in for a good share of glory at the Portland Oratorical Contest last Friday. The boys were highly (spoken of both by press and pub lie, and their musical abilities places them in the first rank. The school enumeration has been completed and returns show that 1314 children of school age reside in the .city, equally divided between the boys and girls, 657 of each. This is a small increase over last year’s enumeration. Mrs. J. Weatherhead of Phanake, Ohio, stopped a few days with her daughters Mrs. James Coverdale and Mrs. Racy Bowers, while en route to Woodburn, Indiana, where she will make an extended visit with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Burgman and family. The Auten & Gay furniture stock will on July 1 move into the large double store morn now occupied by Ellsworth, Myers & Co. The change will be made to make room for their large stock and increasing trade. See their display announcement elsewhere. Bert Hammond, an inmate of the county infirmary was found dead in bed last Saturday morning. He was subject to falling fits and it is supposed that death resulted while laboring under one of these spells. Coroner Clark did not hold an inquest, officials not deeming it necessary. Fred France had the misfortune to fall about half way down the stairs leading to his office Tuesday. He caught his foot on One of the steps as he was about to leave for the council chamber.
