Miss Lulu Marqnaretof Bluffton, is in the city the guest of Aliss India Helm. Miss Maggie Heller will visit with friends at Willshire, Ohio, for a few days'. The public schools weie closed at 3 o’clock Friday, on account of the republican rally. James Carpenter left Monday, morning for Attica, Ohio, to attend the funeral of his neice. Charles Durbin who has been the guest of triends at Fort Wayne for a few days returned home Mon day. Mrs. Lou Sickafoos of Preble, spent Sunday in this city the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Reynolds. George Bailey who formerly resided here now located at Montepelier, will visit in this city for a few day s. Judge Heller opened. court Mon- . day 7 morning. Many cases were called but not much satisfaction will be realized until after tomorrow. Benjamin Knapke and wife of St. Henry, Ohio, are in the city the guests of their Son, Beu They will spend a few weeks in" this vicinity. The city board of health has issued an order that all children under the age sixteen years must be kept at home, as they will not be allowed on the street. Jay Rugg who was kicked by a colt about three weeks ago, .died Sunday evening at 4 o’clock at his home two and one half miles east of the city. Notice of funeral will be given later. There is a street in the northwest part of town which was named after our state. -This street, little heard of until quite recently, has become very notorious for the many fights which have occurred thereon.
The Fort Wayne Journal Monday morning contained a telegram from Chairman Parks M. Martin which said “Deliver Fanning, Warrum and McNutt pasters to election inspectors!” None but the Warrum pasters were received here and delivered to the inspectors. Senator Turpie said that the demonstration here S >turday, was the finest he had witnessed at any time during the campaign. When it is known that he nas been canvassing for nine weeks, has visited every section of the state and been in fifty-two counties, the meaning of his words can be moie easily realized. “Last Monday,” writes the editor of one of our ex> hanges, “we went out to collect $l6O, due ns on subscription from 160 delinquent subscribers. We put in the whole day at it. How much does the reader think we collected? Not a darned cent, reader; not a darned cent. We have" been running a paper in this town seven years, and w £ e never saw times half so hard as they are now, except the year we had triplets at our house.” Mis. H. L. Robert Fitzimmons, the champion heavy weight lighter of the world passed through our city Monday. Miss Mary Lincoln went to Fort | Wayne Monday to spend a few | days with her parents. She will remain until school is again opened. Teeple on Ninth street. These houses have all been quarantined The O. N. O. card club met at the home of Miss Amelia Smith on Mercer street. All members were present and took part in the games. Miss Lena Barthel won the first ladies’ piize and Miss Jesse McLean got the booby. Martin Mylott won the gentlemen’s prize and Tom Cox the booby.
Lou Yager returned from Petos ky Friday afternoon. He went there early in the summer with the hopes that the breezes of that famous summer resort would relieve him from the misery caused by asthoma. From the way Lou looks, the Michigan breezes did all that was expected. He is looking well. The horse of William Bowers, who resides east of here, became frightened Monday morning, near the river bridge and started to run away when the hold backs broke and Mr. Bowers could not control him until he had run a mile down Monroe street. ’ The horse was badly injured about the legs, but no other damage was done.
