Forty-eight business firms plainly saw the benefits of the publicity to be gained, and planked down the required “amount of revenue that admitted their business in the circulating advertising bureau. The first appearance represented J. W. Place’s ice cream, soft drink factory and wholesaler in oysters. Ex-commissioner Rupright and his estimable wife, will celebrate their golden wedding, September 30.’ Their many friends would like to see them live to celebrate their one hundredth anniversary. The council should be apprised of the fact that a sidewalk should be built along the north side of the water works plant, so that the school children will not have to travel through the mud, as after rains, it is very near impossible to get along there. The Standard Oil Co. is erecting two large storage tanks in this city with a capacity of 900 barrels. When entirely completed, Agent Hoyer will have full charge and will be strictly in the swim. His new oil wagon for city delivery is a beauty, and Alex will have to wear his Sunday clothes when he makes his first appearance.
At the recent session of the Su preme Lodge of the U. R. Knights of Pythias, which was held at Cleveland. a m-w name was adopted, and the rank wiil be known hereafter as the “Knights Loyal.” The name “Division,” has been changed to “Company,” and all Divisions will be designated hereafter as Companies, using the present panic and number with the word Company instead of Division, The changes will not involve existing oiganizations in any expense. Some ofoitr capitalist and moneyed men should dig themselves ■loose from enough of the silty lucre to build an opera house, ft is a shame and disgrace that a city like Decatur, with its many pther superior advantages, should not have an opera houses w here even an ancient set of barn stormers could show themselves to any advantage or comfort.
