There are now sixty-five members of * the faculty and there are two hundred and fifteen courses offered. PROGRAM I'lirmero lu*lltu»i‘ Hehl in .Wirtz** Groxc .lime 1 I. IS9(>. . , . ■ •' i 'Die p-’o’p e of I hi* vicinity began to I assemble at an,early, hour, and by ten j «.'clock a- in., a huge crowd had gather- | ed. I The meeting was (Ailed .to order by president Martz and tlie program was carried out in the following manner: Song ol welcome by Pleasant Valley choir. . ’ | Address of welcome by the president Song by chlor A .I. Porter read a paper entitled • How to keep up the fertility of the farm." His main points were: 1 That farmers should not work in the soil when it is too wet and that all the growing grain and hay should be fed on the farm. 2 Sow more clover. 3 Save all the manure you can and haul it directly to the held as fast as made. Questions discussed by Prof. Latta and others The subject “Opportunities for the young man on the farm" was handled by W. F. Johnson. Subject was discussed by J T. Burley. The fari'n the best place for him for this reason: He can do anything he wishes. Song by choir. Adjourned A I TEKNOOX SESSION. The institute was called to order by president Martz at I:3d o'clock. Music by chior. In the absence of W. A. Fenner, the next subject. “Who shall we elect to make our laws," was taken by C. F. W. Battling. His main point was that farmers should elect farmers to represent them. Man will legislate for his own interest before he will “for any one else. Following this was a paper on farm life and its attractions, by Miss Closa Davis She held that if farmers did not live happy it was their own fault. They have every opportunity for becoming educated. E B Smi h read an excellent paper on the education of the farmers children. His theme was to train the morals and build a good moral-character, and no matter what a boy or girl may know in the cojnmon branches, he or she is a total failure unless he has a good moral character. Farmers boys should get an education that will help them in their avocation. All greatness cotnes fa goffd moral character. Following this was a paper by Miss Vic Martz, on the genuine girl on the farm. Her idea of a genuine girl on the farm was that she should not be to ! nice to worg in the kitchen, also that she should say what she means and mean what she says. The crowning event of the day was an address by Prof. W. C. Latta, of Perdue University. He said a person should seek an education for the increased power it gives to do good. At Perdue the students work with an actual thing, as they will when they start in life for themselves Young men and women do not need rich parents to get an education. If they have the grit and stick-to-it tiveness it is all they need. The meeting on a whole w r as a decided success. A great interest was manifested by all, and the day was considered well spent by all present. G. H. Martz, W. F Johnson. President Secretary Did you ever stop to think what indigestion really means? it means simply that your stomach is tired. If our legs are tired, we ride. The horse and the steam engine do the work. Why not give your stomach a ride: that is, let something else do its work. Foodscan be digested outside of the body, All plants contain digest! ve principles whicTi will do this. The Shaker Digestive Cordial contains digestive principles and is a preparation designed to rest the stomach. The Shakers themselves have such unbounded confidence in it that they have placed 10 cent sample bottles on the market, and it is said that.even so small a ipiantity proves beneficial in a vast majority of eases. All druggists keep it.

RIDERS OF BICYCLES Should Observe’l’lic l-’oHowlni: Huies <ll ret Illi) • Don’t riile with a soft tire. Keep it pumped a* hir l is you can: the wheel will rile easier and will last longer. Don’t ride with a loose bearing, nor yet with one too tight. Five minutes running <>n a poorly-ad-justed hearing may ruin the best wheel. , Don’t try to do tricks in a crowd. Many a good machine has been smashed because some smart Alee thought he could ride hands off. Don’t be afraid of oil—you can’t get too much of it on a bearing, or a chain either, for that mat ter. Try a little soap on your chain if it seems to run hard. It is better than graphite. Don’t drink beer. It affects the leg muscles. Don’t coast in the night— nor in the daytime, except when you have a straight road ahead with no crossings or car tracks. Don’t ride a saddle that hurts. There .are good ones -on the market. Don’t let rain drops dry on your nickel. Every drop means a rust spot.Elbow grease is the best nickel polish. Clean your wheel after every run, and at all other times when you think it needs it. Keep to the right and avoid collisions. Slow up when crossing a car track—your wheel will last longer. Go slow around corners unless vou have an accident policy. Don’t ride a wheel if you cannot be a gentleman. There are hoodlums enough in the ranks now. Remember that women and people climbing-hills have the right-of way. — When riding with a female companion keep on the oat side and give the woman the curb. Don’t carry a child on a baby-car-rier unless it is borrowed or ' you have more children than you need. Don’t make fun of a girl in bloomers. How would you like to wear skirts? • Try a cold plunge after a country run. Don’t wear a boiled shirt in hot weather. Get your saddle high enough. If too low, your knees will get cramped. It bands or feet get numb, change the position ol your handlebars or saddle. It isn’t the scorcher that gets the most fun out of a wheel. Don’t try to ride a high gear unless you are training for a road race. Avoid iced drinks when overheated. Cool off first. Beware of ice cream soda. Stop riding when you get tired. ‘ —- All other games discounted by the ten pins. Near the C. AE. depot. 705dtf 6 wtf Ten pins, ten pins, ten pins, at Pete Schneider’s. Near the C.
