The Monrj Question and lite Wage Worker' ami Farmer. One of the most false and misleading doctrines in politics is the one advo eating free and unlimited coinage ot silver at the ratio of 16 to 1. Since tlie close of the war. 1865, this doctrine has been preached by some of the political aspirants for office, and since the advent of hard times this doctrine has gained more believtrs. The advocates of free silver have been mainly working on the farmer and wage worked, and have been trying to make them believe that high prices for products and high wages would follow the adoption of the 16 to 1 plan. The advocates of the gold standard say that exactly the contrary would follow. Toe farmer and laborer would be the one to lose by the adoption of the 16 to 1 bill. We that must parn our living by the sweat of our brow, let it be farmer or laborer, have the most interest in this question of free coinage of silver. The first question in which all are interested is: “Are all of the business transactions to be conducted on the basis of good and sound money ? Are our laborers and mechanics to be paid in money’having full purchasing power? Or are they to be paid in money that may be worth 75 cents on the dollar today and 45 cents tomorrow?’ 1 These are questions touching the welfare of every community, of every family and every individual. But there is a difference. The rich man who has boarded his wealth will be exempt from embarrassment. he may lose to some extent. but neither he or his family will suffer for want of food or clothing. The poor man. the laborer, the one who must depend dirtbat what he mav earn, will be the first to notice the evil consequence of business stagnation. Why? Because they have nothing on hand but are dependent only on their labor production's, and if these are not in demand they suffer. Labor cannot be hoarded or put in a vault for future use: if a day's wages are lost they cannot be regained. Continued labor the payment of which is in good money is essentially necessary for the welfare of the laboger and his family, and he •would not do all he could to further such ends that would iqsure work ami payment in good 'money for himself. The wage worker can not prosper if the industries of the country lay dormant, if trade is hampered and peace en- ! dangered. Neither can he prosper if the money problem is not settler i. e. if the dollar in which he is paid is worth so much one day and has another value next day. This purchasing power of coin is the binge upon which all seems to be centered at present as far as politics are concerned. A great many people want the government to regulate the finances ■ and coin silver as much as possible .(unlimited coinage) without reference to other tfations. Or in other words the government is to coin silver at the ratio of 16 to 1, 616 ounces of silver are to have the same purchasing power as 1 ounce of gold.) How this is to be accomplished is not yet answered. Everybody may see if they look over the reports of those countries ’ where Silver is recognized as a circulating medium, that I<> ounces of silver is only worthonly I once of gold, and therefore 16 ounces of silver have only the purchasing power. of of an ounce of gold. If 1 we go behind the curtain we will find that if 1 he silver coinage bill becomes a ’ ’ law it will benefit only those that own , the silver mines. They, will send in | their silver, have it. coined into dollars containing 412 grains’of standard silver, being worth 51 or 52 cents, and i compel! you to take it for 100 cents.' According to the old m ixim the farmers are a little behind in planting corn. There is one thing our county seat cannot boast of, and it is that which the farmers who dwell around it are so vigorously kinking about. Decatur is a lovely place nicely located and contains all the modern improvements that go to make an enterprising city. Yet there is one thing that has been neglected in the way of improvements, and that is a place for the farmers to hitch their teams while in the city. Few people know that all plants contain digestive principles. They cannot absorb their food until it is digested any more than animals can. The Mount Lebanon Shakers have learned the art of extracting and utilizing these digestive principles, and it is for this reason that their Shaker Digestive Cordial is meeting with such phenomenal success in the treatment of dyspepsia. The Shaker Digestive Cordial not only contains food already digested, but it also contains digestive principles which aid the digestion of other foods that may be eaten with it. A single Iflcent sample bottle will be sufficient to demonstrate its value, and we suggest that every suffering dyspeptic make a trial of it. Any druggist can supply it. Calvary Item*.
