All the parties to the two wed- * dings are living yet. There also lives there a man who »nce lacked only one vote of being nominated for vice-president of the United States, and who has traveled in every state and territory in the Union except four. There is also living in that place a » fourth cousin to Gen. LaFayette. A Justice of the Peace lives there who in his eight years of justiceship has married 192 couples. ' A lawyer lives there who was married * a few years since by Jthe governor of Indiana. There is an ex-undertaker there who has hurried over three thousand people. That city also contains a resident who has invented the most wonderful astronomical clock, probably ever invented. The clock has eleven sets of hands. A few years since there resided in Portland a nephew of .left. Davis? bis mother being Davis'sister, and Davis grand-nephew' being sheriff of Jay county. Davis' nephew ’s widow sides in Portland yet, Outside the county seat,, yet in the ■ county, resides a man who hits lixeTtni the same farm more than sixty years; he having enteredit from the govern- ’ inent. Another man lives in the county, who is said to lie ins years of age, who has a daughter living aged 75. and a son aged 60 years. And another man who Claims to be 99 years old, and whose * father, he claims, lived to be 11., tfnd his grandfather 130 years of age. The man who built the first jail in the county, and who w'as one of.the first sheriffs of;the county, nearly sixty yearsjago.: also is living in the county yet. Theie is living in the county one of Jay county's first hunters, who has shot Xj and killed eighteen deer at nine different shots in the early days of the county There is also an active school teacher in the county who began teaching public school in 1854, ffnd has followed it ever since with the exception of a few' years he was in the late war,
