MllTffij or HIM. I I Usual Midsummer Ihillnoss Now Said to Be Prevailing. • r- i WEIJH IS TO BE EXPECTED. I k * —— I Dun X <>>.’«» Weekly Trade Review and i BmdM.rcet'N Take n Favorable View ot UtiNincMN ChnrticteriMt Icm —Kx porta ot Gold at I'rrKetil Not, Thought to Be Vufavorablo —Failure* For the Week. i New York, July 20.—R. G. Dun & Co.’s weekly review of trade says: The week’s news is not entirely encouraging, but it is all the more natural because there are signs’of midsummer dull - ness. Whdat. prospects are not quite as good as last week, but still there are lower prices, as corn and cotton have been lowered. The exports of gold and the less favorable treasury returns for July were not unexpected and mean nothing as to coining business. There is perceptible decrease in the, demand fpr most manufactured products and the actual distribution to consumers naturally lessens in tnidsummer. Much of the recent buying was to anticipatfra rise in prices and such purchases fall off when prices have risen. There are still numerous advances in wages, but st/ikes grow more numerous and important. In pari because business was unusually large in the first half of July, a quiet tone meets reasonable expectations. (void exports for the middle of July, when crops are beginning to move, if not meant to affect stocks, can at alls events have only a speculative significance. ’ 1 • Failures for the week have been 258 in the I’nited States against 23'1 last year, and 39 in Canada against 14 last year. Bra<lstreet’s It.p.rt, New York, July 20.—Bradstreet says: All the previously reported favorable industrial and commercial features are continued this week, the endurance of the revival in demand for iron and steel, the further advances in prices of the same and the increases of wages of industrial employes being the most significant. Merchants at almost all larger cities are preparing to semi out travelers, and until they begin to exhibit results no exact estimate of how fall traiie" will open can be prepared. At tl time the outlook is regarded as high./, favorable. Tile expansion of industrial activity at Chicago, St. Louis, Louisville and Cleveland stimulates the dis- , tribution of merchandise staples gen- ' erally. Country buyers are present ; n unusually large numbers. Exports of : wheat and flour from the United States and Montreal this week, amount to only 1,(152,000 bushels against 2,317,000 bushels the previous week. REPORTS FROM JACKSON HOLE. SerioiiN Trouble With the Indians In Northern Wyoming. Cheyenne, July 20.—. The news from the north yesterday is of a more alarming nature than any heretofore received. Governor Richards is taking every precaution to prevent an uprising, and if the news from Lander that the young Arapahoes and Shoshone braves are leaving their reservations for the purpose of joining the Bannocks is confirmed, troops will be ordered to the field at once. Company B, at Lander, is held in readiness to move as soon as the command is given. The federal troops at Fort Russell have not been ordered to move, but it is expected they may be sent to the front at any moment. Governor Richards had a long conference with Colonel Van Horne yesterday in regard to the situation. Both realize that prompt measures must be taken to drive the Indians back to their reservation. Warlike Indian.. Lander, Wy., July 20. —Two hundred bucks are off the Shoshone agency and cannot be located by the .agent. Their chief fears they have gone to Jackson Hole to join the Bannocks. Signal fires are burning nightly in the Wind river country. The Shoshones complain of their rations being short. AMERICAN FRUIT. Londoner. Appear to be Hungry iFor California'. Product. London, July 20.—There was an animated scene at (~’oveut garden yesterday when the first consignment of California fruit for this year was sold at auction. It consisted of 24p boxes of Bartlett pears, 311 boxes of plums and 206 half boxes of pears. There was a large crowd of buyers, liigh prices prevailed. Owing to the drouth in England and France fruit is scarce. A prominent fruit merchant said: “This is the best fruit wo get in London. It weighs more and is therefore better for the London market, where fruit by the pound. The dealers ' find no trouble in disposing of all their purchases before night.” Court martial Called. Memphis, July 20.—Adjutant General Sykes of the Tennessee National Guard has issued an order for a courtmartial to hear charges against Captain F. K. Deffrey and otjier officers of the Neely Zouaves, which company captured first prize at the competitive drill recently held in St. Louis. The officers of the national guard refused to allow the company to leave the state at the time of the drill, and the charges grow out of their disregard of this order. . : : : —- A Cun WetAr- Bloomers. Tiie nature of the subject or; subjects considered cannot be learned, and apparently it was resolved to keen I the proceedings secret, for each of the , ! persons present declined courteously ; but positively to answer questions touching the deliberations. All that : could be gatjiered was to the effect that nothing had ■ haupened at Gray Gables to give rise to any apprehensions. Among the many theories the favorite one was that the meeting was called to discuss the Cuban situation. All of the offiews, with the single exception of Constructor ; Bowels, have reported in favor of the . plan indorsed by the bureau chiefs as : against the one prepared by the construction bureau. The bureau chief’s plan provides for high armor belt, the double stored turrets and 13 inch gnus. — r American Cattle In Mexico. Washington, July reported , action of the Mexican customs collector j at Palomas, in ordering all cattle owned ; by citizens of the United States to be taken out of that district, under penalty of confiscation, is not given credence m . official circles here. They are confident that the order if issued at-all was without sanction of rhe Mexican government, and that no attempt will be made to confiscate the sfock, as this would involve a serious controversy between the two governments. J, : ' Consular Fees Increasing;. Washington, July 20. —Consular re- [ turns show that the receipts from in- j voice fees have largely increased during I the last six months. In a few cases the ] fees for one quarter have equalled the ' receipts for the whole fiscal year 1594. j These returns are regarded as indicative • of a revival of business and of increased ! imports, and indicate that the consular establishment is likely to be seif sustaining.
