Keceipts rroni sugar iinpurtHtioiis Surprisingly Loxv and the Expected Large Increase From Whisky Withdrawals Has Not Materialized—Spirit of Contiilence and Security. Washington, June 17. —Treasury receipts from customs and internal revenue so far during the month of June shoxv no improvenient over last month, xvhile the disbursements remain practically the same. The receipts frotp sugar importations are surprisin jy low, and the expected large increase from xvhisky withdrawals has not materialized. For the first half of the present month the receipts from customs amount to $6,224,725 and from internal revenue $5,197,085, making the total receipts from ' customs for 11 by months of the fiscal year $146,843,687, ami from internal revenue sources $136,•.154,163. During rhe last five, months the receipts from customs have been as follows: January $17.36.1.916, February |1LL334,691, March sl-1,920.729, April Mav $12,474,558, Juue. estimated, $13,000,000. Duririg the same months the returns from internal revenue sourceshave been as follows: January $11,034,964, February $8,860,480, March $9,850,977, April $16,648,880. May $10,754,053, June, estimated, $11.000,(MM), making the total receipts for the year from customs $153,618,962, and from internal Revenue $142,757,077. Spirit of Confidence end Security. The present deficit of $48,400,950, however, is likely to be reduced by eutting of expenditures, to about $-15,000,000 for the full fiscal year. Notwithstanding this showing for the year’s operations, there is no expectation from any source of an -extra session of congress, or of another bond issue before the regular meeting in December. The gold reserve ainouts to about $99,500,000, with an availabh cash balance of nearly $184,000,000, which is regarded as ample to meet all ordinary demands. The spirit of confidence and security which pervades the treasury department at this time, is largely dhe to the provision in the last bond contract obligating the syndicate to protect the gold in the treasury from xvithilrawals for export.
