Miss Millie Lenhart went to willshire, 0., to-day to visit friends. * Dan Beery returned from Warren to-day whe he has been to purchase horses. Henry Steele, of Pleasant Mills, went to Peterson today to visit his aged mother. Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt, of Shelbyville, HL, are the guests of Samuel Slaybaugh and wife. J. F. Mann, wife and children went to Pendleton, Ind., to-day to spend Christmas. C. C. Sheets and wife went to Celina, 0., to-day to spend the helidays with her parents. Jacob Hooser, a prominent farmer of Blue Creek township, was in the city today on business. M. V. B. Archbold arrived from Indianapolis today and will spend the holidays with his family. Mr. Ballenger, df Columbia City. is. the guest of his son, John, and daughter, Mrs. Wm. H. Meyers. R K. Allison, cashier of the Old Adams County bank, left this afternoon for Fort Wayne on business. ' Mrs. Martha France, who has been visiting at Willshire, O , for the past two weeks, returned home to day. Last night at the M. E. parsonage occurred the marriage of Miss Sarah Vents to Isaac Robinson, Rev. Gregg officiating. Samuel Bone, the ex-policeman of the city of Portland, who was charged with manslaughter for the shooting of Frank Guild, was acquitted of the charge by a jury of Jay county farmers. The trial commenced last Monday and closed last night. The following new cases have been filed for January term 1895: Adam Schroll vs Samuel Stettler; set aside , fraudulent conveyance. Mrs. Manassa Gilson is reported very ill with lung trouble. Michael Kinney, of Jefferson township, was in the cfty today. John Minor, of Indianapolis, is in the city on business today. The city was full of people from the country all preparing for Xmas. Jacob Miller, of Wabash township, was in the city today on business. Miss Rex, daughter of John Rex will be the guest of friends at Ossian. Wesley Stults and wife, of Wren, 0., will Sunday with friends in this city. Recorder elect Harvey Harruff, ot Berne, was in the city today on business. Fred Huffman, trustee of Hartford township, was in the city today on business. Frank Miller and wife left last night for Bluffton where they will spend Christmas. Jacob Wechter, trustee of Blue Creek township, attended the institute here to-day. Trustee Joshua Bright, of Kirkland township, was in the city today on business. Lewis C. Miller and wife, of Fort Wayne, are the guests of Alex Hoyer and wife over Christmas Henry Lankenau, a protaiinent teacher of Preble township, attended the institute to-day. Fred Wagner, of Pempville, O , will be the guest of Fred Busick, of Hoot over Christmas. / H. IL Bremerkamp shipped a car load of flour and feed th Sherman, Mich., yesterday. William Lhaman, of Missouri, an old friend of Sheriff Ashbaucher will spend Cbustmas with him. Mrs. Dr. Coverdale returned from Fort Wayne this morning where she has been the guest of friends. Dr. J. S. Coverdale has placed a tele phone in his house for the convenience of the public as well as himselt. Miss Emma Black, a teacher the Geneva schools, left this morning for Titusville, Pa., to visit her parents. Dick Meyers will leave tonight for Weaverly, Tenn., where he will visit his brother and uncles a few weeks. County Commissioners Conrad Brake and J. H. Hobroke were in the south part of the county today in the interest of roads. Miss Lincoln, teacher of music in the City schools, went to Fort Wayne today. She will spend Christmas with friends there.
Hon. B. F. Ibach, of Huntington, was among the persons from abroad attending the teachers institute here today and delivered a very interesting anti instructive lecture. Rev. W. A. Pavy, of Warsaw, who has been conducting a series of very interesting meetings at the Baptist church for the last three or four weeks, returned home today. Lost—Two pair of small shoes, No. 8 and lOjchildren’s shoes. They were lost on Tuesday, December 18th, between Decatur and James H. Ward’s, of Kirkland township. Finder will please leave them at A. Holthouse’s shoe store and get reward. James H. Ward. Among the persons attending the teachers institute today were Thomas Gallogly, of Jefferson township; Andrew Gottschalk, of Monroe; B. F. Kizer and Edward Huffman, of Linn Grove; Isaac Brown, of Root township; Clark Calderwood, of Kirkland township; E. B. Macy and Charley Simcoke, of Monroe. On December the 21 of each year it is unlawful to shoot squirrel^'until June Ist of the following year. The section of the statute relating to hunting squirrels is as follows: ‘‘Any person who shall shodt or destroy or pursue for the purpose of shooting or destroying any squirrels during the period from the 20th daf of December in any year to the Ist day of June in the succeeding year shall be fined in the sum of two dollars for each squirrel so pursued.” Taken frdm the Boston Store. Coverdale arrived today, and will be their guest during the holidays Hon. W. J. Vesey, of Fort Wayne, with his family, will be the guests of his father-in-law, David Studabaker, over Xmas. Some sneak thief entered the residence of Charles Gross at Monroe last night and took $37 in cash and a revolver. No clew. The Winchester organ factory burned Saturday morning. Loss about $7,000 partially insured. It was the property of a joint stock company. Miss Tefrona Crist, and John Cristwent to Elkhart to spend Xmas with William McLaughlin and wife, their brother-in-law and sister. Cal. Wells was up before Esquire Hill to-day charged with the larceny of a lap robe. He was bound over to the circuit court in the sum of $l5O. j Mrs. McGonagle, accompanied by Mrs. Clark Lutz and daughter, left for Delphos, today wheie they will be the guests of friends. Mr. Lutz will join them tomorrow morning. Master Bert Friedline and sister Susie, of near Monroeville, were the guests of friends here’ last night. They were on their way to Marion where they will spend the holidays. The residence of Mrs. Sarah Walton, at Monroe took f fire and was damaged to the extent of about $75 before it was extinguished. It is supposed to have originated tel ll a defective flue. George Freedly, foreman of the Boxfactory, in company with his wife will spend Christmas in Illinois From there they will go to Peru where they will visit friends a few days before returning.
Jdkse Butler, of Root township, will have an old fashioned family re-union tomorrow at his residence. He expects all of his children and grand-children present and have an old time Christmas together. We hope to hear from you Uncle Jesse. ~ ■
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fisher served an elegant four course dinner to an appreciative company of friends last Saturday evening. They were Rev. and Mrs. E. T. Gregg, Prof, and Mrs. A. D. Moffett, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Case, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Archbold, Dr. and Mrs, J.- Q. Neptune, Mrs. W. T. Alverson and Mrs. Noah Mangold. Tbe evening was pleasantly spent by all aresent. Tbe home of Mr. and Mrs. Fisher is one that all who enter will enjoy themselves.

Ex-Sheriff Michael McGriff, of Geneva, is in the city and will take in the show tonight. Reuben Chenoweth returned home today from a visit with bis brother John in Wells county. Mrs. E. A. Huffman, of Marion, is the guest of her parents, W. P. Rice and other relatives here. Misses Lizzie and Emma Werder, of New Washington, 0., are visiting their sister Mrs. W. A. Wetter. Mrs. Hughes, of Ossian, who has been the guest of C. Carr of this city, returned home yesterday. The Monmouth Glee club will sing at the installation of officers at the G. A. R. Jesse Williams and wife and Jesse Smith and wife spent Christmas at Bluffton, tbe guests of John Smith and family, who were formerly residents of this city. Mine Host of the Miesse, put us in shape yesterday by placing before us a spread that will be remembered for all time to come. A large number of his friends were there for dinner. The little daughter of John and Lilly Breigb, and great-grand daughter of John Ruprigbt, of Preble township, died on Monday morning and was buried yesterday in Elhanna cemetery. Lynch reports having done three times the amount of business in in his line in the last ten days that he has done in the same length of time sinse he started up his factory. Roebuck, of Fort Wayne, arrived today to attend the funeral of her sister Miss Mary Roudabush tomorrow. Mrs, Matthias Colchin, of Anderson, who has been visiting her sisters, Mrs, P. Forbin And Mrs. N. Nix, left last night for Fort Wayne to visit friends. Hugh McCurdy, Grand Master of Knights Templar of America, has issued an address to all members of the order adjuring them to be faithful to its precepts. 0 The High School will furnish tbe people of eur city with some fine enterments. The course of lectures to be given by Kate Crary is among the specialties in the lecture course * Miss Mary Roudabush, who resides about three miles southeast of this city, was suddenly taked ill yesterday about four o’clock p. m. with hemorrhage of the lungs, and died at twelve o’clock last night. Funeral will be held at the Evangelical church tomorrow at 11 a. m. interment at Maplewood cemetery.

Henry Cornell and wife, of Bluffton, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles France and Mr. and Mrs. John Myers over Christmas, returned home today. Mrs. Maria Raudell and son Charley, of Germantown, 0., are spending the holidays with her brother Captain M. L. Byers at bis new home on South Fourth street.

The proceedings of the teacher’s institute held in this city last Saturday will be published in full next ( week. It was the most successful joint institute ever held in the county. It is well enough for our people to bear in mind that January 7th is thg date that Kate Crary will begin her course of lectures here. The opera house has been secured for that purpose. William Danner, of Loud enville, 0., a former member of Co. ”H” of lira 89th Indiana, is shaking hands with his old corm ales here He is visiting . his mother and friends in Blue Creek township. - Tbe Epworth League will give their regular monthly social Friday evening at the M. E. lecture room. An interesting musical program will be rendered. Everyone present will have an opportunity to guess tbe names of the living rulers of some of the most prominent countries All the young people of the city are invited Light refreshments will be served No charges. The Graham Earle Co., that a week’s engagement here last Saturday are held in grateful remembrance by our people. As impersonators they are excellent, honorable and worthy of support from the general nu6lic. They need no recommendation. Our showgoing people will be glad to welcome them to our city at any time and will always give them the support they so 'richlyde'serve The elegant borne of Mr. and Mrs. John Niblick was thrown open to a large company of relatives and friends last evening. An elaborate dinner was served on in the handsome parlor and at six o’clock. Social games and music followed and tbe guests departed at a late hour after an evening of pleasant conversation and merriment. It was the occasion of tbe usual holiday family gathering of the Niblick’s and BtudabAker’ Besides the members of the two families, there were present Mr and Mrs. A. J.
